no need to buy that cable.. i'm using canon m50 with tmy new zoom h4n pro.. i use the mini jack of my rode mic, the one that you tried. it works. just turn the monitor on in the input setting of the h4n and connect the cable to the side of the h4n and to the mic input of the m50.. no need to press the record button of the zoom too. just use it as an external microphone. it works well.

I’m a professional athlete hosting a podcast in studio and on location and I would like to use this setup but I have a few questions: - I’d like to connect 2-4 Shure SM7b microphones to the outputs on the zoom and conduct interviews either sitting down or on the move. Im having the exact same problem and i tried many cables. I connected la tra to trrs cable from my zoom recorder to my camera and i am not picking up any sound. Im going to buy this one. Hopefully this works! Thanks!

I have a Rebel t6, so no audio input. I have to record with ableton and sync the footage and audio in Davinci Resolve. If I had the dough I’d do this. Good video thanks

I'm dealing with the exact same issues, except I'm using a rode mic on my camera, but it's still not great (not a high end rode - it came with the camera). I'm gonna try your fix, as I do have a zoom recorder. Thank you so much!!!

I have a 3.4mm jack and it works. You’re camera might have issues. That’s jack is pretty expensive as well 👀

Hi Matthew! Thanks for your video, is very good explained. Seems I have a right cable I bought in Thomann shop but my cam (Lumix g6) oesn't get the signal/ doesn't react on the sound at all and doesn't record the sound with h4 zoom. What can be the reason? Would be very thankful for an help. All the best!

Thomann bietet unter "Zoom - APH-4n Pro" ein Zubehör Set an, welches ein spezielles "Dämpfungskabel" enthält, um den Kopfhörer-Ausgangspegel, der am Mikrofon-Eingang der Kamera zu Verzerrungen führt, zu verringern ! - Adapterkabel, um den Linepegel auf Kamerapegel / Mikrofonpegel zu senken ! Um dazu noch einen Kopfhörer nutzen zu können liegt dem Set auch ein "Splitkabel" bei. Das Set kostet zur Zeit 43 €.

Hi Matt, great video! I'm looking to capture my live rock band performances using a Canon r50. First, is the h4N pro the best of the zoom series to do this (vs H2n or other)? I don't believe I would need the input jacks for additional mics, just the internal mic stereo mic. And would it be a better choice than say the Sennheiser MKE400? Finally, would the Canon r50 be a good choice for this - it's pretty similar to the M50? thanks very much.

The h4N is my personal favorite, but honestly all of them are really high quality. I don’t think you will go wrong for recording a live session. As for the camera, I’m not too familiar with it

But then again I have a different camera so that just might be it 🤷🏾‍♂️
