How To Connect PoE Cameras Miles Away To A NVR! || Reolink NVR || Ubiquiti PTP Wireless Bridge Setup

Ғылым және технология

In this video, I extensively cover how to connect a PoE security camera to an NVR that is hundreds of feet, if not miles away, WIRELESSLY. Through the help of point-to-point (PTP) wireless networking technology, a PoE switch, and a little patience, you can get a camera connected easily by the end of this video in less than 15 minutes even with little know-how.

    Hey Carson, Great video and thank you for making it. I have question if you can set up the Ubiquiti PTP Wireless antennas in the field as I already installed them before I actually set them up in the office. My guess is I will have to use a laptop in the field at the other end. let me know if you can give more specific information how to set it up. Thank you. Martin

    I watched the video and I pretty much follow. I put four cameras on the exterior of the garage and run them to a p o e switch that has enough spaces for the camera wires to go into it plus my extra wire that's running underground going into the house. That one single underground wire will run to the NVR along with the four other wires from the four cameras that are attached to the house making a total of 8 cameras at 4K with one p o e switch in the garage and one underground wire

    Man although I didn't grasp a few key points(you were moving a little bit faster than my brain works) & will have to rewatch at least once more(most likely several times more) it's a super helpful video! A few questions off the top of my head are, did you name all of your old routers the same SSID(to keep you things uniform etc? Reolink do an RLN36 which needs 4 POE injectors/switches etc, so would they(the litespeed radios) work in between the NVR & Subscribers I think you called them? Maybe it's going to be easier to have multiple systems?

    Well done video. I wonder why the radio in the 2nd building requires a POE injector when you have it connected to a POE+ switch? Power budget?

    Can you please do a video for indoor wired cameras? I saw your previous videos but when you showed how to mount them inside you never actually showed how you wired them through the wall.

    do you have bit-rate on the cameras set to variable? if so likely that's why it isn't a consistent speed. probably better as when less motion is goin on its less likely to push a lot of bandwidth. im curious if you put them on CBR continuous bit-rate i wonder if that data link bandwidth would be like a more steady ~50mbps.. hope that makes sense

    Nice Video, my nvr is on my home network, and I'm trying to connect one of the poe cameras in a remote building via a wifi bridge to my home wifi. I was able to get it to connect but it was so slow, it only would show a frame at a time, about every minute. Any thoughts on the slowness? I'm testing this all in house so the signal level is great. I'm just using a TP-Link unit configured as a wifi bridge to plug the remote camera into, and it connects to the home ISP modem wifi which my nvr is on.

    Hello, so if i have 40 cameras on the set up, ie 8 at the receivijg end (admin) where the NVR is , and others at the distant locations where am setting the point to point connections, Do i have to ensure the NVR has 40 channels? And can accommodate all of them? Or since they are wirelessly connected via p2p, then even if its say 16 channels it can handle them?

    What about the max distance between antennas? Do they have to face each other?

  • @timfoster5043

    @timfoster5043

    Yes, they have to be pointed directly at each other with each unit (ideally) being aimed less than 3 degrees off axis. The closer you are, the more slop you can have. The radio has an Alignment feature that will refresh the signal strength every second or so and help you tweak the alignment. Real-world max distance is probably in the range of 10 miles. HOWEVER, this is only under ideal conditions with totally clear unobstructed line-of-sight, where each radio is mounted on a ~100' tower (or shooting across a valley). If you're shooting through dense trees, you won't even be able to get 500'. Real-world performance will vary depending on distance and line-of-sight, but the solution presented in this video will work for most applications. I've put up literally hundreds of such links.

    It’s just an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) by APC! It’s linked in the description. Really anything that is a UPS should work to protect your power to your devices and provide additional power if electricity goes out for a short time

    The Ubiquit radios require 24v of PASSIVE POE. They are not compatible with your off-the-shelf 802.3af/at POE switches. The same is true of TPLink radios. In fact, I'm not aware of anyone who makes a low-cost radio bridge that runs on 802.3af/at POE. Not sure why. But if all else fails, you can plug in a $17 802.3af converter into your radio and then plug it into your POE switch.

    Does the router need an ethernet connection providing internet? or is internet not even needed in this setup?

  • @carsonmtech

    @carsonmtech

    Жыл бұрын

    Not needed! The router is only there to serve as a DHCP (IP Address) server, so that the security cameras can obtain an IP address that the NVR is able to add. Hope this helps :)!

    Is this set up vulnerable to deauthorizing? Or DOS?

  • @timfoster5043

    The Ubiquiti radios use a proprietary version of AC WiFi in order to connect. I've heard they're vulnerable to deauth attacks, but I don't know for sure. If you suspect a nefarious neighbor, if that person is determined, they can disrupt ANY wireless network they can see. The tools to do so are not expensive. But these kinds of people are not common. I would go out on a limb and say that the majority of people who think they're seeing deauth attacks are probably seeing interference or flaky equipment or a poorly managed network.
