Which one is better to use alcatron pre amp or universal 710

I’m kinda biased haha I love my 710 but some local studios use the alcatron and they sounds soooo cleeean too. I say rent the equipment or go to a recording studio that uses those pres and listen to your own recordings

I have a question tho, I just bought an ssl2+ and they dont have separate line input and only combo jacks where I can plug line level balanced trs to bypass it’s preamp but do I have to press the ‘line’ button on the ssl2+ when doing this?

Ssl2 sounds clean man! But you should have 2 inputs. Connect the 1/4in into input 1. It should work without activating line button or 48v. Should be just a plug and make sure within your DAW you choose the correct track to record

I also have new videos connecting to my UAD Apollo Twin. Should be almost identical for setting up

@@ururozu oh im looking forward. Although the difference between UAD apollo and ssl is the ssl2+ has line button that I thought I had to press. I understand i dont have to press the 48v since i be using the preamp’s 48v. But i was thinking i really had to press the line button when inserting line input balanced trs to the combo jack

@pinoyhiphop3977 I know what you mean. But I believe if you have you’re preamp or compressor connected and goes to your mic input you should be able to hear your mic or see sound being recorded without engaging any buttons

@@pinoyhiphop3977 Right most if not all interfaces have there own pre amps and phantom power now so Your signal flow should be Mic -> Pre -> Interface. The mic output is at mic level, which goes in to the pre. The pre outputs line level, which goes into the interface. No line level connection should have phantom on it, ever. Sending phantom out of a line level input should be impossible. So to pre should be feeding the mic the juice and if your interface has the pre you are using (like my Apollo) then it will deliver the juice from the interface I use triton phantom blockers in line to all my Royer ribbons and similar mics there is no tone degradation and no one can fry them I also don’t need to fear the patch bay although I never power any mics until all connections are made
