Best example I've seen by far. Thank you.
Almost all coloring books are 8 1/2 x 11 size. I think many card makers would love a greyscale book to be able to use them on size 5x7 and 4 1/4 x 5 size cards or the new tall cards and book marks of Christmas pictures and one of cards for all occasions. It would be nice to have different sizes on one page. This would be a dream come true for many of us. Your work is so beautiful. Would you ever consider doing this for us. Hugs
YOU ARE AMAZING !!!
Love watching you color, Ruth. I always come away with some new things to try on my own colored pictures. Thank you for so generously sharing your talent and your time.
Wow! So beautiful.
I love this picture

Thank you for the relaxing tutorial Ms. Sanderson! You are a very good teacher.
I chose nectar as the primary (brown) skin color for a whimsical picture that I colored for my friend's daughter. It was the right choice.
Love the way this turned out. Thank you so much for doing these tutorials I always learn so much with each new video. Take care

Ruth your work is always just stunning, and pure in its form, and just clean work, I hope that makes sense. I was kind of miffed I didn’t get to make it to this Stream, but thankfully you have a playback...I love playbacks because I can slow the video here and there to see what you are doing, exactly. Thank you so much Ruth, I am a big fan of yours! ♥️
This tutorial is amazing! I already had this book and had been too intimidated to start it... FYI fellow colorists--Ruth's greyscale books are SO good. Many others are cheap, pixelated, too light or too dark. Hers are perfect, such warm gorgeous images.

Thanks for your kind words! So glad you found the tutorial helpful and that you like my books.
Thank you for the beautiful illustration! It's loaded with details! I love it and I look forward to seeing you color it..
I just love watching your tutorials, I've learned so much from them. I am now in the process of buying more of your books. ♥️
I was shopping Amazon for Christmas coloring books and was disappointed of the selection of real CHRISTmas books and then found your "The First Christmas" coloring book and was excited for the beautiful pages, but concerned and disappointed, because of the grayscale pages. A reviewer there convinced me to try. I made my purchase and came here and found this video. I now can't wait to try!!! It looks like the grayscale actually makes coloring "at an adult level" easier, the shading is already done. Thank you for your book and your tutorials!!!
Very pretty grayscale coloring TFS
I would not mind having all the coloring in real time. You are such a great teacher! 🌲😍
That’s such a tease! I was so ready to watch the tutorial now. You’re teaching me patience as well Ruth ;)
Disegno stupendo; È stupendi i tuoi libri complimenti 👩🏼🎨👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😎
You make coloring look so easy. You do such a wonderful job, your pictures are beautiful. Thank you, and stay safe
This was so much fun coloring with you! So many things you said made so much sense with the blending. I learned a lot!! You are a great teacher!! Thanks!
I love your Christmas grayscale coloring books! Grayscale is my favorite thing to color. Faber Castell Polychromos are my #1 choice of colored pencils. 💜💚💛
First let me say your coloring skills are AWESOME!!!! This is the first of your videos I have watched. I am trying to learn to become a better colorist and I must tell you this video helped me a lot!!!! I have now subscribed to your channel and hit the bell and now I shall go and watch your playlist. I will come back and color this picture along with you. Thank you so much for sharing your talent!!!! Hugs and Prayers Dani
you have talent i can only dream of
Hello Mrs. Anderson, First of all, congratulations for your tremendous talent, you are an artist who has incredible sensitivity and talent. I allow myself to disturb you, because I have a question to ask you, here it is: I recently bought the coloring book: Ruth Sanderson - Santa's Christmas, whose illustrations are splendid, but, there is especially one of which I fell in love, this is coloring number 4 in the book. A mouse asleep in her armchair next to a fireplace on which she hung 2 socks so that Santa Claus placed his gifts there. So I would like to know if there are other drawings of this famous mouse (like a series)? Thank you in advance for a possible answer, take good care of yourself and your loved ones in these difficult times, and above all, continue to make us dream with your magnificent works. Cordially, Rene Schorter
I know I’m late to this video because I just discovered you! Love the way you color an teach at the same time! I have always struggled with greyscale but you have made it very approachable!
I've been looking at colored pencils for a little bit now but this is the video that did it for me. I took some photographs years ago and turn them into grayscale but I used a pen on them... this is amazing I just bought a couple of your books.

Best directional videos on KZread. Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼✏️✍️✍️✍️xx💖😘xx
Interesting way to develop color on greyscale. I have primarily worked with line art, where I add my own shadows, and am just getting into coloring commercial greyscale pieces. I usually scan the pieces and reduce darker greyscale pictures to a lighter greyscale. Using your layering technique, I should be able to skip that step now. Thanks for sharing your technique for coloring greyscale.

Wow
New Sub! Love your artwork 🥰
Oh my gosh!! I just purchased your "Santa's Christmas Coloring Book" and colored a Santa. Oh my,! My Santa looks very sick. Yours is so beautiful. I've just started coloring and I love it. I do find one of my problems I need to keep my pencils sharpened. I also note you make sanyasi top and pants look like velvet. I use Prismacolor pencils and I see I have to keep going over and over with the pencils. I've also bought the Verithins, but they don't sharpen very well. Do I need a special sharpener? Oh my he's gorgeous. Thank you for your time and talent.
It’s SANTA. 🤩🤩🤩🎉💌
Thank u
So I just discovered I can change my own pictures to greyscale with Microsoft office Word! Print with my laser jet on vellum 90 pound, game changer!

Hi..I'm following along with the tutorial. I want to make my Santa Black. What colors would you use for a darker skin tone?
I loved this video! I’m Completely the last layer of color fit the bag but I couldn’t make out which color you used. Was it sepia or burnt ochre?
Thank you so much for doing this video! I have learned so much from you and now feel like I can dive into my many books that I bought from you. I also wanted to know if I could still purchase the book Baby animals? I looked on Amazon but it is not for sale anymore. I so hope you do more tutorials about coloring grayscale pictures. Your art work in your books is absolutely stunning 😍

Shelly, Amazon took BABY ANIMALS off the market for reasons I have yet to decipher as it is my artwork. I created a new book GRAYSCALE COLORING FOR ADULTS: Puppies, Kittens, and Bunnies, which is basically the same book with a new cover.

@@RuthSanderson ...thank you Ruth for letting me know! I am on my way to purchase it now! I wish I could buy every single book you have created...your art work is gorgeous and I so enjoy coloring it. You can bet every extra $ I get I will be saving for your books!
This is so helpful, Ruth, please, please keep doing these tutorials! By the way, which paper do you use to print out an image like this? I've only got a laser printer, so it has to be something it can handle, but at the same time (ideally) the paper would have capacity to accept pencil blending and very slightly wet brushes.

Springhill makes a good Vellum Bristol with a tooth that can be used in any printer. www.amazon.com/dp/B005G8A5Y2/ref=as_sl_pc_tf_til?tag=ruthsanderson-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=affbac480b7c205978d636970cbe91c4&creativeASIN=B06W5GNJRS&th=1

I use the 67 lb but 80 might work better for washes.
I need to work more at layering.

Patience is the key. Think of it like knitting, adding careful "rows" on top of each other in different directions.
SUBSCRIBE. Intense grayscale is touch... thanks for this instruction
I just read your explanation of grayscale for coloring in a FB group. What sharpener do you use for your colors? It looks pointy but sturdy! I’m completely new to coloring and just bought my set of 150 prismacolors and I’m so excited to start coloring with them. Thank you for the beautiful image!

You are welcome! I have a small KUM hand sharpener, which has a long point. I also use a Panasonic electric sharpener--I find older used ones on Ebay. They have a nice long point, which I prefer. If you break the point a lot you are bearing down too hard. If I rush, sometimes I break a point.

Thank you. I'm a beginner. Where do I get gloves like that?

They are Copper Hands gloves for Arthritis--I got them in Walmart.
Question. what kind of paper is the image printed on to & what type of pencils? I've tried greyscale colouring with cheap paper and cheap pencils and it isn't working well at all.

I like Springhill Bristol card stock, 70 lbs , Be sure it is not the smooth finish. I like Prismacolor pencils, but any better brand will work better than cheap ones, which tend to be too hard. Look for sales and coupons.
Which brand of colored pencils are you using?
