Dude... I'm into Pokemon collecting and just stumbled on this video. Very impressive, and makes me interested in learning more about Magic: The Gathering. Thanks for opening my mind to this new world.

I take MTG as a game, and just "collect" Faerie Cards as I love to have them in every version available, but I play with them too 🧚 Lately I just bling my Commander's decks with a "Modern" criteria (Extended/Showcase/SLD) or with Old foils and lands (before 2007, 7ED foil lands are my weakness) and I sell all the cards I do not need/like

When I stopped buying MTG. I am able to afford an $80k+ car, a 300k+ house, and steak everyday. MTG ruined my wallet...

I dig this and it was super helpful as I think about growing my collection. I’ve gathered around 6,000 cards in the last year that I’ve been playing. It’s mostly been cracking packs from all kinds of sets and then buying piles of singles from my LGSs. At first it was about deck building and the excitement of opening new sets. But now I’m looking more to find things that I am uniquely interested in and growing a collection of cards for the love of collecting!

I recently decided to shift my collecting gears. Now I am collecting cubes, as cubes can be drafted and played. Primarily constructing set cubes, and mainly their commons and uncommons in the expected ratios. I only buy rares in bulk lots, and nothing expensive, but the ones that are cool for limited can be added to spice up a draft. Haven’t regretted this decision yet and one day down the road, maybe I might be able to start a MtG clubhouse aimed at Friday night limited that is free and offers variety on its shelves.

I don't play birds of paradise but i do put ornithopter of paradise in my commander decks if i can. Cheap ramp that flies and can hold equipment.

How or where do you get $8k to spend like that?

Do I have a deck for this now? Is this card playable? Art that I enjoy/appreciate? Market low or likely close to low? Recently scored a foil playset of schematic Mishra's Bauble for like $5 (down from $50 each at all time high ). If it puts a smile on your face and doesn't break the bank that should be a low risk proposition. Does this card belong in my collection?

There's nothing wrong with collecting. I think people are fed up with the finance scammers taking advantage of the game. There's no need to defend collecting. The negative sentiment is not towards collectors but finance/crypto/nft bros masquerading as collectors.

A misguided sentiment imo. People buying the cards, for whatever the reason may be, isn't a problem. It's the monster at the helm selling (managing) the product that is the problem that nobody holds to account. If people did then Hasbro would've belly'd up a long time ago.

Just bide my time waiting for sales of 4 or more at a low rate and find a seller who is selling multiples to mitigate shipping. It’s getting harder now as there’s much less product being opened but they pop up from time to time ❤️

If you're "investing"... it's about the reserved list commander staples. Bought most of mine in 2011-2013 and those value gains have been absurd. Everything else crashes. Birds of Paradise is like $5 forever and doesn't even go up with inflation.

Selling allll my cards except a couple cards for some cheap commander decks. 6,300 coming to me soon

You should never go into a hobby hoping to make money off of it long term. Instead of selling the cards off when you're done, I suggest passing it off to someone else you know who might enjoy it to get others into the game. I also wouldn't spend more money than your comfortable with because the way you talk about dropping $8000 on reserve list cards sounds like you aren't.

It's nice to hear that people are still enjoying the game. Personally, I have been very upset with its direction. The pace at which sets are released is beyond overwhelming. The powercreep has been turned up to over 9000. Wizards making political statements with a "ban list" that targets specific cards for "racism." Cards have more text than a Russian novel. There's nothing about modern magic that makes me want to collect it. In a way, I am a bit envious of you.
