Whilst it’s sad to see the others go, you DEFINITELY made the correct decision. To me, those trees you’ve put so much work into deserve their space for admiration

Tony Sissorhands; Those trees are gor-geous!! I want to know the tools you use. Especially the electric shears you used in Part 1.

Haha! Thank you, Christine. The main clippers are just cheap 'sheep shears'. I wouldn't recommend the Bosch electric sheers though. The angle of the cutting head is wrong, forcing your wrist into an awkward and painful position. Hope you have fun having a go! Very best, Tony.

Hi Tony, I’m just starting to get interested in Topiary and really like the idea of a Lemon Cypress cloud tree. After a while can the string be removed. Will the branches eventually “set” into their new horizontal levels? Found these two videos really inspirational, many thanks and congratulation 😎😎

Many thanks. Yes, I believe the strings need to be left on for 3 or 4 years. Mine are still on, though I'm still gradually bringing them down to 90 degrees with the trunk. The key thing is to adjust them every year. I've had a number of instances of forgetting. The branch then grows round the string, causing a weak point, followed by a snap. Best of luck!

I'm not really sure about the 'best' time, but I've just cut mine at the same time as my other hedges - so, mid June, when they're looking in need of trim.

@@TonyDavisSaxophone Thanks Tony! I see from the video that the season is almost summer, but better to avoid the heat of Italy I think. Better maybe April or May. I understand anyway. They are as gorgeous as you pruned them!

Can I know the plants suitable for cloud prunnig please ??

You'll see it starts with a nod to Jake Hobson's excellent book: 'The Art of Creative Pruning'. It shows many different types of tress and plants that can be shaped. I'll confess, I wasn't sure if mine would prune well, but delighted they did! Best of luck with your own.

Hi Iris, it's just a pair of cheap 'sheep shears'. I also use a Bosch electric hand shearer too, though I wouldn't recommend it as it's a bit uncomfortable after a while.

@@deffed2286 Sorry, no, but I've just had a look online and there's an amazing variety available. Ours are only around 8 years old - they grow so fast!

What is your estimate on when phase 3 can begin?

Probably a couple of hours. One thing I'd do differently is to use nylon sting rather than jute. Are you going to have a go?

@@TonyDavisSaxophone I would love to but I'm in a new build so no big established plants I may buy a larger conifer depending on the cost.
