If your choke tube is frozen in the barrel, get you a medicine bottle or cup that will be long enough to cover the threads. Then get some kroil, fill the cup or bottle, stick the barrel upside down inside the cup or bottle. Leave it for 2 to 4 days. When you come back the choke tube will unscrew out the barrel.

When I do that, when I come back, it has unscrewed itself and is laying in the bottom of the container!
Steve, thanks for the video, specifically cleaning the gas port/block and the choke tubes. Getting more into sporting clays and glad to learn more about correct technique to maintain semi auto shotgun.
This does teach me something intelligent, use gloves when cleaning the weapon, which I don't even see in car mechanics, great job. Congratulations for the personal protection.๐๐๐
Excellent video, Steve. I love all of you "how to" videos so keep them coming. And I love my 940JMPro!
Iโve used this process since your last cleaning video, the otis products are great. I bought the bore cleaner liquid and fill a small cup and soak the piston that work pretty well. However, the clp wipes have become my favorite, one wipe can clean a gun inside and out after a hunt and quick shoot.
The boretech 12ga patch jag is a game changer. Best cleaning accessory Iโve ever bought for a shotgun.
Great video. Thank you. I have a question, I just bought an over under, can you lubricate an over under with the Otis Dry Lube instead of grease on the hinge points etc.?
New semi auto 12ga owner here... I liked the video... I always wanna know how to take it down and maintain it before i put lots of shells thru it... Learning skeet, then onto ducks .... Appreciate ya Steve... From ๐จ๐ฆ
Hey steve, thanks for the content. Make us a video on how to clean your shotgun for the first time before shooting it and how to break it in, a bonus point if it's inertia.
Brake clean and compressed air works good also and itโs quick.
Thank you for the information. After I saw you with Jerry shooting the 940 GM Pro. I bought one last month. It took me a while to find one new under 850. But I did. I was wondering if you could do a basic cleaning tutorial on that shotgun. I have seen complete disassembly with Jerry & his daughter, but I find it very difficult. Cheers
I usually run my piston dry. For the magazine tube Iโve found flitz metal polish after a round of any dedicated gun cleaner gets any little bit of carbon left behind.
Are the Shooters Choice products safe to use on camo dipped guns? They wonโt peel the finish? Hate to have the camo on my A400XP peel! Keep it up man!
I just watched an earlier video of yours and mentioned the same thing. Try out an ultrasonic cleaner. It will clean all those smaller parts better than any other method.
I also put the cleaning rod on the drill to do the whole barrel an choke tube in one shot.
I have a standard 930 (no special coating). Very curious about coating the recoil & magazine springs as well as the outside of the magazine tube with dry moly lube when reassembling. Your thoughts?
just picked up mine (85166) yesterday. do you recommend cleaning before using?
Hi Steve, Love your videos and even the older ones with Gould Bros. But, the reason I had come to this video specifically, is the question of "greasing" the piston. would you grease the piston and tube instead of just using an oil???
I like to pull my mag tube assy apart to make sure I don't have any swamp stuff and grit in there that inevitably finds it's way in during time in the field. Make sure she feeds those shells properly and helps prevent wear between your plunger and mag tube.
The best bro love them โค๏ธ๐ฅ. Review the benelli Vinci
Can you do a comparison of breakfree lube cleaner vs your favorite cleaner for which works better with dry lube and do more step by step break down of trigger group
Iโve used a drill with a brush on small pipes and outboard steering tubes but never thought of it for chokes. Thanks for the helpful tips man and as always a great video
Wipe ur sg off with baby wipes. Chip off carbon if needed around gas cylinder. Oil lightly with 10w30.
Could you please review the browning Citori trap max
What bolt release did your slap on there?
Good info on Otis products, much appreciated. But I will say, if anyone thinks you're getting 1500 shots out of that 940 pro before a cleaning, you're smoking something. Mine barely went 300 before it began to malfunction. I really like shooting the gun though. Great balance, swing, low recoil, etc.
Patch on the brush is the way to go ๐!
@targetfocusedlife can you do a review on the Fierce Mayhem. Thereโs not many reviews about this shotgun.
What is different between this gun and trap gun?
Ok jackson, Beretta 1301 or Mossberg JM 940 or 930 pro???
How often should u clean it
I used to use CLP on the gas system, but have gone to leaving all the gas parts dry. Oil plus hot gasses make lots of carbon. Iโve noticed a lot less buildup since running them dry (gas system).
@ashtynkroeze5892
ะัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
What does leaving it dry mean? You just donโt do anything with it? I just bought a gas shotgun and am looking for what to do with the piston.
@patrickbrophy5310
ะัะป ะฑาฑััะฝ
@@ashtynkroeze5892 most modern gas operated semi auto shotguns are โsomewhatโ self cleaning. Meaning, the carbon will build up for a bit, then stop. I use a toothbrush with solvent to clean the piston. It wonโt be spotless and does not need to be. I clean the magazine tube with solvent and a green scotch brite scrub pad (only if thereโs a lot of build up). Lastly I use solvent inside the gas ring attached to the barrel. Then I wipe all the solvent off everything and install them with no lube on anything. The only place I put lube is on friction points inside the action. Gas system stays dry. Excess oil on the piston will create a carbon mess.

Depending on brand some say not to put anything on them. I know Beretta for mine says no solvents or anything in the gas parts. Just a brush to remove the carbon and a dry patch or rag
If you use a garbage can, don't use a garbage bag and if it's a plastic can line it with shop rags. Some of those cleaners dissolve or loosen plastic. I use a metal paint tray and lean the barrel end in the paint tray and I have a magnetic barrel rest for the top after I spray it.
How about cleaning a browning a5 older gun moving barrel

@markechuca9398
5 ะฐะน ะฑาฑััะฝ
Because it wouldnโt cycle. They are a pos.
I always overlube my guns. Carbon can be cleaned. Metal can not be replaced. Sure the first few shots will be smokey but I am okay with that.
From my experiences from cleaning gas guns is thisโฆonly apply oil to the bolt slide action. To make it slippery. Oil on the gas system-mag tube just creates more buildup of crud. And harder to clean in my opinion. I just wipe down the gas system with gun oil rags to keep from corroding. Not so much lubrication. But my experiences ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐คทโโ๏ธ. Inertia guns like to be slippery in all aspects unlike gas driven guns.
I was always told never clean the barrel without a choke installed because you will end up just clogging the threads and will give you a hard time putting a choke back in.
How often should we clean our shotguns so they last as long as possible?
@chiya2006

It depends. If you abuse it for duck/geese hunting in rain, winter, high humidity,damp conditions, then do it as soon as youโre done with it for next hunt. The reason is the dirt inside parts attract moisture and they can get rusty easily. Plus it performs smoothly as moving parts have no restrictions and the gas system is free of carbon buildup in auto loading guns. But if youโre only Turkey/ or deer hunting, then at the end of season is good enough. Although some people have a hobby of cleaning it right after they come home. Which is a good practice too as you know the toy is always ready . Just in freezing conditions try not to over oil moving parts, they might get freeze up on you as the oil gets thick, preventing the parts from moving ESPECIALLY โ the firing pinโ.
Apparently, the 940 is a butch to take down and reassemble. JM and his kid even cut their video for cleaning it.
I thought aaron cleaned most of your guns and does he still have his channel it doesnโt look like it
Is that shotgun the only semiautomatic with a tang safety also is it metal?? I want a semi but i need a tang safety.
If doing a video on "cleaning like a pro" should have done a complete breakdown. Recoil spring and magazine tube/spring. This was more of an average quick clean.
