I'm always duck hunting, so my shotgun is in the mud and water 2-3 days a week and I religiously clean it after every hunt and have yet to have an issue. I have thousands of rounds through the gun. It's an older Remington spr 453. And like you've said cleaning a gas gun is the best thing you can do for it

I am a big fan of you and your brother. You both have awesome videos. Watch them all the time. Much respect. You guys are great. This video is exactly why I love my inertia guns over my gas like my SBE 2 and 3. Take down and cleaning is simple. Less moving parts and less maintenance. I have literally taken apart my SBE 2 when I dropped it in dirt while hunting and rinsed it off in the river and it cycled just fine for a few ducks for dinner. Much respect for what you do.

Nice video! A few good tricks in there. Especially with the solution. Be sure that piston is completely dry! Myself, I use a small air compressor with 25 psi and a fine air nozzle with a trigger to blow powder, dirt and other junk out of my trigger and gas piston on my Betetta Extrema 2. I use a silicone rag to get rid of carbon on my mag tube. Break free CLP has always been my go to. I also check all of my springs and replace them regularly.

I always watch how he uses gloves to protect the skin, because all the chemicals that come into contact with the skin are absorbed by the body, very intelligent of him, which is strange to see a car mechanic putting on a pair of gloves. As always, good work and learning to improve yourself when I watch your videos.

As an ex military guy it’s in my DNA to clean a gun every time I shoot. I am envious though of all the cleaning products you are using. My collection isn’t that broad for sure. Then if I have shot a particular gun then I’ll pull it out of the safe and clean it anyway. It’s something I enjoy.

For the newcomers here, you don't need any of the products shown in this video. You can buy a gallon of mineral spirits for the price of one can of that Gucci cleaner. That plus a bottle of motor oil or transmission fluid is all you need. Don't get scammed by repackaged chemicals that are available in bulk for 1/100 of the cost.

Look everyone don't waste your money buying these cleaners use brake cleaner, a can only cost a few dollars and cleans all the carbon. Wipe off the carbon then lightly oil all the cleaned parts that were dirty inside and out. I use Slide Glide from Brian Enos on the bolt and bolt rails and inside the receiver and because oil has a tendency to migrate and not stay where you want it.

I have shot an SX3 for 8 years without a single issue. (Not including very low quality target load not ejecting correctly) I know it is a good gun, but I truly believe this track record is due to regular cleaning. Even though I have been doing it for years, this video was a great reminder on how it should be done. The video also made me feel a little guilty, because I find I have become lazy over the years and started cutting some corners. Thanks for reminder!

@@TargetFocusedLife Well, I can't say that I have ever purchased any one particular brand. Usually just get what the local gun shop has on hand when the old bottle runs out. Never really thought about it, but maybe that would be the reason I have troubles cycling the cheaper target load. Perhaps a higher quality lubricant is the answer.

When it's raining pretty good, my gun wont cycle but i been oiling/lubing it the night b4 the hunt and it seems to fix the problem but i have to do it everytime and now sometimes it dont cycle even on a dry day. The shell in the chamber ejects after shot but it doesnt load the other one. Had it for 6 seasons i believe.

Nice video Steve. Thanks for sharing your cleaning techniques. Here’s my question. What about the crud/carbon the build’s up inside the stock and spring assembly?? My Browning Gold Hunter has been a great partner for many years but lately it doesn’t cycle like it used to. I’ve cleaned it exactly as you’ve demonstrated in the video many times over the years. Dry lube also. The first shell fires no problem and ejects. The second shell chambers but the bolt stops just shy of closing all the way. What is causing this?? I’ve held the plunger open and sprayed gun scrubber in the tube and tons of crud came running out. Did this multiple times until nothing came out. Thought that was the problem but it’s short cycling again. This gun has never liked cold weather, below freezing since I’ve owned it. Your thoughts please as my gunsmith is at a loss too. So frustrating. Missing my old friend in the blind. HELP!!!!! Should I purchase the aftermarket spring assembly for the stock? Sorry so long. Bummed goose hunter in Battle Creek, Mi🥲🥲🥲. Thanks. They only make the gold in 10gauge anymore for a reason. I have one in my safe ('96 model) I use to break clays, but the newer piston guns are miles beyond the older generation guns. The piston and gas designs have evolved quite a bit since the gold. That being said, I would likely take it to a smith and have them go through it if you insist on getting it back in normal order. There's an awesome set of aftermarket support for it still out there, but parts are getting scarce. Has it ever been stored with the bolt open? If so, maybe a new butt spring is needed.

I have several Browning Golds and a Maxus II. To pop the pins out I just use a wood golf tee since the soft wood won’t damage the finish around the pins holes of the guns nor the the pins themselves. In the field, if I need to take out the trigger group, I use the plastic gas sleeve which has a small metal protrusion on the “stick” end which fits perfectly into the pin holes. But be careful, that little piece is metal and can scratch..

I have an inertia gun. I used to store it with the bolt open but my recoil spring weakened. I replaced it with a 125% spring and keep my bolt closed. I have a Rem 1100 that I stored with the bolt open. It is very loose so I will probably have to change springs in that too ?

I have both Macy's 1 and 2 plus SBE1. I clean the Maxus ever 3 day or depends on rounds of ammo. Steel is very dirty. Clean the tube and gas knuckle, good to go . Takes 10 minutes. Complete cleaning trigger group and all Little longer

That is so hard because the value is often in the eye of the beholder. Maxus 1 or 2? SX4 vs Maxus 1, I go SX4 all day long. SX4 vs Maxus 2, I would go Maxus 2 if they were the same price. Just depends if you can justify the additional $. If you prefer inertia, the Affinity 3 is a great option. SX4 vs Affinity....toss up. How much target shooting will you do? I always go 3" over 3.5" and if you shoot a lot of clays, SX4 or Maxus 2 is the way I'd go. Hope that helps.

Everyone that tells me to get an inertia gun because they can shoot 5000 shells without cleaning, my answer is the same. Why don't you clean and maintain your gun?? I have a browning silver 3.5 (mechanically the same as an sx3) and I clean it often. Does it need it? No, I've gone tons of shells without cleaning, and all that happens is that it starts to get finicky with light 1 oz loads. Really fast takedown and cleaning, and it cycles everything again.

1st step is to go buy $$$$$$ of Otis products (add the sponsor here) not forgetting the trigger pins lube, the sight lube, aaaaaand the butt pad lube and cleaner. You put butt pad cleaner on ur bolt cleaner then you start all over.

I hate to be THAT GUY but son you kept referring to your receiver as the chamber. There’s only one chamber and that my boy is part of the barrel bore. Just sayin if you want to be taken serious in life you first have to take what you’re doing as serious enough to at least learn the proper names. The first time you called it wrong I caught it and didn’t think much more than you just got tongue tied and called it the wrong name. But after you kept calling the receiver the CHAMBER I felt you need to be corrected. Sorry but I don’t have you cell to do it in a private way
