    Along the same lines but simpler try this fail safe put dishwasher tablet in the pot, cover with water bring to the boil, simmer for 30mins and leave till it cools or overnight It will remove everything, if there are tiny hard pieces they will easily wipe off with a scourer, although I generally put mine through the dishwasher

    You totally saved my life ... bought a dutch oven, made a goulash today and there was burned macaronis stuck on the bottom ... I've made twice the boiling water with baking soda and my dutch oven is almost like new. I knew that I couldn't used stainless steel sponge so I was stocked with that issue. Glad that I've found that video before throwing away 85$

    I'll have to try baking soda. I put my dutch oven in the sink, pour in a couple cups of oxyclean, and then pour in a pot of boiling hot water before lidding it for 30 minutes. It usually lifts anything on the bottom right off. No scrubbing.

    I love steve videos! But i'd like to clear that every time you mix vinegar and baking soda you make an acid base reaction that gives you a salt. So you basically give away any advantage of using an acid and obtain the result only by mechanic action

  • @ConcealedWeapon

    @ConcealedWeapon

    Жыл бұрын

    Exactly. In fact the acid is not necessary. Water and baking soda is enough, but as you say, it probably works just by the mechanical action of the baking soda, and not for its alkalinity.

  • @kathiyu7007

    @kathiyu7007

    I've laid down a layer of baking soda, then sprinkled with vinegar. The fizz lifted all of the crap off my dutch oven without heavy scrubbing. It is the acid reaction that works.

  • @joeburkart1883

    Yes and no, because they’re also a release of gas that can break the bonding between the stain and the pot. Trick is to let one of the agents sit and work into the stain before adding the reactant.

    My dutch oven has little spots on the rim of the bowl and the lid where i guess the enamel chipped and exposed the iron. To prevent it from getting worse is it enough to rub some oil on those spots before cooking and after cleaning?

    In the early 70s we got a gift of a great pan with a stupid "feature : a cast iron "anything" pan by Waterford, with an enameled outside and (I kid you not) a black teflon or similar "nonstick" interior! Just leaving the cast iron would have been fine, or enameling it. we used it quite a bit tilI noticed little black flakes of nonstick coating in the food.I planned to either wire brush or sandblast the remaining teflon stuff off, and season or use it like cast iron, but I left it behind when we moved.

  • @MadeInCookware

    @MadeInCookware

    9 ай бұрын

    Hi! The rims of ours are not raw cast iron, or else they would rust. It is covered with the very first underlayer of the inside of the Dutch Oven, that we call: "The Mass." If it was enameled, stacking of the lid would damage enamel. That said, make sure to dry the product after cleaning.
