Im not one that goes crazy with washing my bikes just because I know theyre just going to get dirty again the next weekend but I bought a fertilizer spray pump bottle with a hose on it for like 15 bucks at home depot and i put purple power in it. Pressure wash the chunky clumped up dirt off then spray the degreaser on it let it sit and pressure wash it again i dont even scrub anything. Like it or not, works for me

@@AaronColton93 I really hope this is a legit reply and not some impersonation account. That said... we use the same cleaners, same techniques, and only thing I missed from your cleanup procedure was the chain wax being full up to the seals in grime. (likely due to it going in the trash since you were restoring the bike.) Still, what's your preferred method for chain wax grime removal?! That stuff is nasty when packed. I have the fancy red brush that dose more to take away my precious calories than it does the grime. I have resorted back to the pressure washer again and again; however, I'm considering a sonic cleaner with a strong base to remove it all easily. Any luck with new, pristine chains and saving them from early detonation would be great!

@@Aint1S Hey Ant! Its actually me here! The chain line is always the tough part to get clean again. I have a few tips for you. #1 is the chain lube that you use. I have had the best luck with Lube and Removal on PJ1 Blue Label and Motul Factory Line Chain Lube. Purple power Straight up works pretty good for those if you accompany it with the three sided chain brush for those lubes but some of the thicker wax style lubes need something more aggressive like Kerosene of "Gunk Engine Degreaser" these works much better for that case. Something that I do every few rides that saves me a ton of time on non o-ring chains is that I use clip links and just take the whole chain off and put it in a cooking pan. You can pour a few cups of gasoline, kerosene or Brake Cleaner over it and let that do the work for you. The chain will be perfectly clean and ready for a fresh lube when you put it back on. Some people would have issue with re-using a master link but if installed properly I am comfortable with 3/4 uses.

If you really wanna make the cleaning process extremely fast, buy a legit steamer like a Chief Steamer or Vapor System VX5000. Rinse the bike with a pressure washer, hit it with Super Clean diluted 4:1, Power Clean 4:1...let it sit for a few minutes and then blast away with the steamer. When you’re done, hit all the nooks and crannies with a blow hose.

When your fast you have to.. clean and then go through every mechanical part top to bottom. It’s not ideal but it’s a must ! Then after all that go through every single thing that needs lube new oil new filters. And that is at very very minimum not actually changing any parts

2002 KLR 650 Gen One Tip..... Or.....Wait until it rains.....GO FOR A RIDE! My bike lives outdoors and it hasn't EVER BEEN WASHED! *Runs GREAT!* Also, I never lube my chain..... It's pointless stupidity to expect the chain lube to penetrate past the O-rings to the pins..... I adjust it as necessary and replace it when necessary....50,000 miles on the original sprockets and they look fine. Open your eyes....Think for yourself.

  • @tonnitropartas

'01 klr 650 owner chiming in, does your chain get noisy and kinked because of no lube? I gotta rinse my bike in the winter or else the road salt/brine will eat away at the metals more than they already are. I ride my bike pretty hard, so my sprockets don't last as long as they could. They get shark finned. Also I think the point of lubing your chain is to keep the o-rings soft and flexible

@@tonnitropartas I live on the Oregon coast. We don't have the snow and salted roads common to other places.... We do have salt air off the ocean. But that hasn't made any real difference to my chain. I have never washed my bike or used any protective products on it and it has lived outdoors since 2002. Your experiences may be different.
