If you're getting that spin time already then defo no need to clean them out. This is more for if your bearings are only getting several secs spin.

I have a brand new $30 spinner that only spun for 30 seconds. I checked the bearing and sure enough, it was rusted so I soaked it in white vinegar for an hour and all the rust came off. I then soaked the bearing in isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to clean the bearing and then dried it with a hair dryer and now it spins for 2-3 minutes.

does it really work? i accidentally put powder onto my spinner's bearings and now its fucked up

  • @KokoandFooFoo

    @KokoandFooFoo

    7 жыл бұрын

Yes, it works. Vinegar is acidic and will loosen the rust and dirt in your bearing. Rubbing alcohol will then clean the bearing so that it's smooth and free of residue. When soaking, use a toothpick and spin the bearing several times while in the vinegar to free up the rust or dirt. Repeat this toothpick method when you soak it in alcohol as well. After soaking your bearing in vinegar and then rubbing alcohol, thoroughly dry the bearing with a hair dryer. If you want your spinner to spin fast and long, the bearing needs to be clean (people make the mistake of putting oil into the bearing because they think it will make the bearing more smooth. This is incorrect. Oil attracts dirt and dust and will get thicker in the bearing which will slow it down. If your spinner is noisy when it spins, you can add a very small pinhead drop of machine oil to make it less noisy but adding too much oil will slow down the spinning.) I would recommend pure white vinegar and rubbing alcohol because they're not harsh and do not contain additives or particulates that may gunk up the bearing. If you use strong industrial solvents, it may also corrode the bearing.

I suggest a citrus degreaser. I used an orange citrus degreaser on my bearings from some really old roller blade bearings, and 4 out of the 8 I had spin for more than 45 seconds when I put it in my 3D printed spinner. One spun for over 2 minutes, and another spun for over 3.

The real fix is a device specially made to clean the small bearings - Sector 9 Antiseize Bearing Cleaner. It includes a tree to mount the bearings and degreaser. Then you top it off with Sector 9 Bearing Butter and your spinners will be moving quickly and for longer.

Hey guys i found if you take the two caps off of the spinner and place the spinner into a glass( dont let the fidget be smaller than the glass) fill the glass up just above the spinner with hot water NOT BOILING WATER for 5-10 minutes, you dry it off and place the caps back on the spinner will be more smooth to spin, ( reply if you did this I wanna know if it worked as well for you guts😊)

I prefer not to use wd40. Each of the bearing's ball surface somewhat very smooth like coated. I tested using dry silicon grease (also tested wd40 as well) and compare it to without lubricant (i just clean the bearing using thinner A Special liquid and dry it with hairdryer). The result is without lubricant is smoother and longer spin time (but a little more noisy)

I've cleaned my bearings out, but they only spin for about 5 seconds, what can I do to improve this time? EDIT: I just watched the rest of the vid, and it shows that the bearing spins faster when you put it in the spinner, but I'm planning to make a homemade one, so what do I have to do to the spinner itself to make it spin fast?

Make the spinner as symmetrical as possible and add weight to the ends, like where I have other bearings in there, these are there to add inertia which makes the spinner spin better. Good luck.

Thanks! So far I've made 3 models, and my best one spins for 15-20 seconds. The problem is, I'm carving it out of cardboard (the base) and It's kinda hard, so the shapes aren't very symmetrical, so; even though the weight of both sides are very close and I've used a file to even it out, It's really hard to make it very symmetrical.

I have another problem, and it's that as soon as I clean my bearings, they can spin for up to 30 seconds, but after spinning it around 20-30 times, the spin time decreases down to 14-17. Why is this happening?

Hi, Yeah if you google "Degreaser" or search it on Amazon then loads of brands come up. I just chose this one because it was on Amazon Prime and a good price.

Nah those ones are just used for their weight, not for actually spinning.

i use skf bearings on my spinners and they are probably one of the best bearings you can get, that are non ceramic. when a bearing is new, they always spin for a not so long time. its totally normal.

Doesn't removing the grease ruin the ball bearings inside after a while?

I'm not too sure tbh, perhaps as there's not too much weight/pressure on them they'll be ok. This is more for fidget spinners though rather than doing it for your skateboard or something.

I use really small bearings on my spinner and i get over 4 minutes of spin (spun by hand) and it makes lots of noise but it works really well. BTW anyone know how to get rid of the noise?
