I couldn't find the Ball Herb Shaker Caps, but I did find a similar jar cap that would work on regular mouth mason jars: amzn.to/3XwKjSJ

Super skeptical about this until I successfully did it myself! I have an "old" computer hard drive enclosure (USB) made of plastic that you can swap out the 2.5" hard or solid state drive from. The case was gross and made worse by me trying to use damp paper towels to clean it off. So now it was sticky and covered in fibers. I pulled out some old baking soda from one of those freezer/refrigerator arm and hammer boxes that had been in there WAY too long (literal years) and was destined for the trash. Worked like a charm! Two for one, got to reuse old baking soda and renewed my SSD enclosure! (Note I did disassemble the enclosure to take out all the electronic parts.

This totally works... I have tried so many things over the years with different things... and with some rather toxic stuff... that did not work. I had a small audio amp and I picked it up and it was so tacky. I almost threw it away because of my prior experience. It didn't really take that long but yes, you have to press down and move back and forth and keep the cloth wet with the paste and dip the cloth very often. Thank you!

Thank you for the tip! It worked for my spinning pen toy. I took apart the pen and scrub a plastic part with baking soda paste for testing. The part became clean and no sticky at all after I washed it with water. I had tried alcohol 70%; it was a mess.

This is fabulous, thank you so much for sharing! I want to recycle some of my old makeup tubes (that are extremely sticky and gunked up) and I can't until they're clean, so I'm super excited to try this out!!! And the fact that you only need baking soda and water is wonderful, so many other tutorials have half a dozen products - this is simple and effective! 🩷

I think the rubbing is the most important part. I've rubbed off sticky plastic with only my finger and some pressure. The baking soda likely absorbs some of the oily stuff and works as an abrasive to scrub it off.

Be careful next to electronics as baking soda can make metal parts rust

OK... I was very skeptical about this. I have tried a lot of products that don't work. I even tried degreaser... Baking soda works amazingly well... I just rubbed it on with my fingers like you show, on some very sticky yellowed plastic and the sticky layer just comes off. Thank you!

My “Bella Rocket Extract Pro Plus” blender which is black plastic turned sticky all over. I’ve also seen this on umbrella handles, especially when they’re left in the car for a few months. I think it might happen more to BLACK plastic than to other colours.

I have a battery bank that has this same situation just like my umbrella handle which seemed to degrade into a sticky gunk. Why the hell does this happen?

  • @RM_VFX

@SteveBlount79 The chemicals in the plastic start to break down. If you're lucky it just makes them sticky. I had the button on my car's shifter handle just fall apart into sticky pieces. Possibly they used too much plasticizer in the plastic button because other parts were fine.

nice ! it worked on my logitech mouse. the side (2 part rubber) is so sticky. I had trauma cleaning using acetone or isopropyl alcohol since it makes rubber worse. this method is safer, and my sticky rubber is turn to matte again
