Well you have some nice ones. I'm trying to clean out some pink and purple and black paint or dye on the back of these quartz geodes that I got from a friend today. Honestly don't like the dye. I went to go rinse them out and get the dust off and the dye started to come off right away so I had to finish it lol. Blessed for sure. My collection is getting bigger. Almost time for a rock tumbler.

I used TILEX mold and mildew remover in warm water in an ultrasonic cleaner. It worked amazingly well. I cant find the TILEX anymore but The Iron Out Looks like a great idea. Thanks

Beautiful specimens! If you want to conserve iron out, I would recommend filling the container with water just barely covering the crystals so the SIO isn't super diluted.

some of my crystals have a tough iron coating but after sitting outside in the rain and sun for a year it really cleans them up!! Its crazy to think how acidic the rain actually is!! Of course a little muriatic or iron out works a lot faster though haha. Great video and thanks for sharing some tips🙂

I like using SIO, but have noticed that sometimes the fluid becomes yellow which will stubbornly stain the crystals. So keep an eye on progress and if the liquid becomes discoloured then dump it and replace with fresh.

Thanks Greig. I like to sacrifice a few rough look specimens as test subjects, some times a short 10 minute swim makes a crystal look good, some take days.

Test it on a small piece and see what happens. It's always good to test any cleaning method on a small piece so you don't ruin something good.

I don't recommend this method of cleaning as it exposes your skin and lungs to extreme chemical toxins. So important to read the labels and not expose ourselves if we don't have to.
