how to clean mouldy silicone

Hi friends. As someone who has installed bathrooms professionally for about 15 years I can assure you that mouldy or discoloured silicone sealant can affect anyone, regardless of status. Here's a great tip on how to clean it in a quick and simple way without the need to replace it. Share this vid, people need to know this😂🤣
IMPORTANT!! If you have natural stone or porous tiles you will need to apply a stone sealer after carrying out this procedure. DO NOT do this method if you have a coloured resin shower tray as the pure bleach could discolour the tray.

I tried this and my whole bath disintegrated, my house burnt down and I had to buy a new house and some new silicon sealer for my new bath. Next time I may use thinner bleach ...

Great stuff. People also need to remember NOT to put/leave objects such as shower gel bottles on the ledge and especially in corners. This stifles ventilation and hastens mould appearing. I always squeegee tiles and wipe excess water after showering. Use extractor fan ( if you have one ) during bath/shower and after. Opening windows is a must.

Something as effective, if not more, is plain white vinegar. Use the same paper towels. Soak them in white vinegar and place overnight on the affected areas. It kills it totally and is not bad for septic tanks.

You don’t need to use that much. I use an old toothbrush and dip the tip of the bristles in bleach. Then just brush it on. In total I would never use more than a tablespoon of bleach. (Gel bleach is best as it clings to the surface). Rinse off in 30 or so mins for really bad mould but generally it is good enough in 5 mins. Leaving that much bleach overnight can be detrimental to the silicone over time and will break down creating pockets that will harbour more mould. To reduce the likelihood of mould developing whether well ventilated or not is to squeegee the shower recess and dry off with an old towel after each use. I know that won’t appeal to most people but I have been doing this for decades and my shower looks like new. We are talking two mins max to do this.

My toilet/grey water system is septic; and it really doesn't like bleach. But I've been told I can dump some natural pot set greek style yoghurt into the septic system afterwards, to restore the bacteria which break down waste. So if anyone else has this issue, there is the possible solution to bleach usage in the shower stall. P.S. ensure good ventilation so not to cause yourself breathing issues, for those who are sensitive, and make sure the cat can't get into the bathroom. Apparently cats bliss out on bleach fumes, and I'm sure it can't be good for them.

You don’t need that stuff. Just take liquid bleach. Put a little bit in a small container. Then with an old toothbrush just dab the bleach wherever the mold is. I’ve done this numerous times. No need for rolled up paper towels or special cleaner.
