@@jasonsab4934 after cleaning the headlights you have to reseal them. You can get a kit for less than $10 that has the sealer with it.
I happen to see this video and try it on mine dull headlight. It works great, thanks for the tip.
After your finished, spray the headlights with two lite coats of clear coat that has uv protection in it.

This is an incredible video this works the best out of the toothpaste the baking soda the vinegar and anything else easy off oven cleaner spray it on just like you said wait 10 minutes wipe it off you may see a little film the next morning but just wipe it off and your lights are as clear as brand new this guy is a genius
Job well done, I watch from the start, for a buck worth trying I think it did a remarkable job, it looks much better that it was at start. I'll use this on my 2005 town & country. Thank you a lot
This is awesome. Now i can save money for a good tip. Thank you.

This is amazing I bought a $12 kit and it didn't do that good of a job and it was way more work. Purchasing a new car going to try this.
Thanks for sharing man💯😁
Excellent
That’s definitely perfect and smart!!!!
Works great!
Great video thank you sir 🙏
Great advice
Que bueno ! Gracias.
Interesting fix, but IMHO: 1) First tape off the surrounding areas to protect the finish. 2) Rinse off with a garden hose before wiping, especially if you've not taped off the surrounding areas. 3) The headlamp lenses should probably be resealed for future UV protection. Possibly a paint clearcoat or Meguiar's Headlight Coating.

@@sewfantastic7257 It might not work a second time. Headlight plastic is coated with a sealant from the factory (similar to clear coat), and that's the part that yellows the most. This probably removes most of that sealant coating, so once it's gone, you'll need to wetsand and compound for future fixes. Better to use this to get that coating off first, then wet sand with fine grit (1000+) to remove the remaining imperfections, compound (Meguiar's Ultimate Compound) to a shine, and seal with either an automotive grade clear coat (Eastwood) or one of the many headlight sealant sprays out there. Not positive, but ceramic coat might work, too, but will need to be reapplied after a few years.

Great video, thanks
looks really good
One of our town's police car had a broken light replaced. The original yellowed light compared to the new light was very distinctive. You could see that car coming a mile away. The police force probably thought the car was jinxed because they caught fewer people in the act when driving it.
Be sure to but some kind of coating on the headlight after because this stuff does eat away the uv protection on top as well.
This is awesome 👍

For those worried about taping off, etc taking the headlight out's an option too. If your lights get moisture in them now's a good time to seal the seams up with clear silicone.

YOUR ENGLISH IS BAD😣😣👲👲
Don't spray oven cleaner on your paintwork. Either tape off and around the headlight, or, remove headlight to clean.
Good for a quickee job. If you need them better you have to sand/polish them.
I'm gonna get some oven cleaner ASAP hope you'll be able to get it 🙂
Thank you.
I'll try it!!
You need to spray clear coat on it afterwards.
I use toothpaste. Cheapest I can find. 1 full tube to do 2 headlights. Squirt it on a cloth a rub until the oxidisation is gone. It's the baking soda and mild abrasives that clean them. I've done glass and plastic headlights and both cleaned up great. Nice smell as your working as well.
We used to use some wet sand paper and then we whipped it of real good waxed and then clear coat the head light lenses.

Got to try that
Oh wow
Oh wow I will definitely try I thought it was the inside of the light that was dirty
I've seen the same thing done with toothpaste, shaving cream, oven cleaner, window cleaner, drain cleaner and about a hundred other compounds. What the heck, try everything you have around your house that won't scratch. Something is bound to work, somethings better than others.
Deep woods off spray also works ironically…
Unbelievable
If I hadn't seen it for myself, I would not have believed it
Might clean the rims too
could this be usedon plastic headlights?
I’m curious how long it lasts I had mine done by someone who claimed that he had seen them last years and it wasn’t two months old and they where worse they started
@kennycasado800

because you have to add some sort of protection to it, like clear coat. The “yellowing” is caused from the original clear coat on the headlights going bad. All you are doing is removing so called protection but if you do not re-add protection the headlights itself will begin yellowing from the harsh sun
So for the people saying the uv protection is removed by doing this, wouldn't the uv protection already be non existent?
@EdPfeil
Жыл бұрын
Exactly. And they will have up again after a few months but for 5 minutes and a dollar. I’ll just throw a uv ceramic coat over and be done.
@tannerelliott6570

Factory clear coat is extremely resistant, able to withstand years of UV rays and abuse, few minutes of oven cleaner will not damage it, but feel free to use some tape to protect it.

@BlueBomberTurbo

That's going to be a much better job. This only removes the failed headlight coating, but leaves any damage that may have occurred (pitting, chips, cracks, haze, etc.). Restoring uses wet sanding to truly restore the headlight to like-new optical clarity.

Approximately 1 year, depending on exposure to UV rays. A good quality headlights clearcoat could help it last longer.
It does work I tried it
WOW
Yes works because it is melting the plastic lens! And oven cleaner overspray on old paint can take the paint off. I know what I'm talking about. I tried it several times! If I were to use a chemical for a fast difference I'd use mosquito repellent spray. But be fast to wash it off with water and dish liquid mix. You can let dry and put wax on them but don't last a few weeks at most. You can buy kits or just buy three grits of wet/dry sandpaper and polishing compound and then a coat of wax. Lasts maybe Three months or a little more but best thing to do is replace them. A cheap aftermarket set is alot better than trying to restore the original ones and you will see better. But the best is to get a new OEM pair and be done with it.

A lot of what you said is true, however a cheap $15 3M kit includes everything you need + the UV protectant. I bought the Meguirs, but the 2K UV clearcoat is still $20. Project Farm did a reivew of a bunch of kits and the 3M came out almost new. Replace entire assemblies is just a waste of money unless you can't spare 30-60 mins and some elbow grease.

Insects spray will do a better job. Just spray it on and wrap off. When it try spray with a uvclearcoat to seal it.

Glass or plastic headlights?
I couldn't find a $1 can anywhere near me. So I went with a more expensive brand. "Easy Off" & if I'm being completely honest. I followed exactly how you did it in this video & it made my headlight look worse than the other one. So now I have a decently clear looking headlight & a foggy one from the damage that the oven cleaner did. Guess I'll just need to replace my driver side headlight now. 🤷🏼
@GD-ps5up
2 жыл бұрын
Used for years and no issues, time is the key, few minutes will not do any damage, would not live it on for too long, I guess Easy Off is much stronger, Dollar Tree has plenty of oven cleaner at $1.25, (After price increase on oven cleaner and whole store} . I would try buffing headlight, I have used on 20 plus vehicles and never had issues, time is the key, fast and easy. Some headlights are behind cleaning and will need replacement, this is just to remove UV and dirt build up, not sure of age of your car, but pretty sure light can be restored, unless was at point of no return. This is not a miracle cure. But timing is important.

@@GD-ps5up I left it on for about 4-5 mins. Then used a micro fiber towel with dawn dish soap & warm water in a spray bottle & cleaned it off. While it was wet it looks very nice. Once it dries it looks way foggier than my other headlight that I did not touch looks & they were both at the same level of clear before I did this. After I was unsatisfied with the results & the way it looked worse, I then tried the tooth paste method, which did nothing. Tomorrow, I have one more thing to attempt. Which is baking soda & vinegar mixed with a little lemon juice. If that don't do it then I'm just going to repeat all these steps to my passenger side headlight. Hope it makes it equally as messed up looking & then smoke them out nice & dark with VHT night shade & just replace the bulbs with LED lights to make sure it shines thru. That's my only solution at this point to restore the appearance I had.

@@wizzdumb2971 Hi, when headlights are wet, does it look OK? If yes although I am not a big fan of headlights clear coats them Walmart sells a clear coat for headlights, is next to the overpriced kits for cleaning them, should keep the same look you have when moist, the can is around $8, not sure how long it will last. When using clear coat, if you go that way, please protect surrounding areas as you would when painting.
Will this "oven cleaner" chemical harm the plastic headlight cover over time? It is a "heavy duty" cleaning chemical mixture, probably consist of some type(s) of acid or acidic substances, that can cut the grease build-up inside ovens.
@BlueBomberTurbo
2 жыл бұрын
If you wash it off, no. It won't be there anymore to hurt anything. Shouldn't be acidic, more of a heavy duty degreaser than anything. I know degreaser can discolor aluminum, and fast at higher temperatures, so that's probably what this is.
