This is such an elegant method. The physics behind it is quite brilliant, and the simplicity off the method is so accessible.

I've owned a bacon fat separator for years but only used it once or twice because I was unimpressed with it.

My ma, strains her hot grease (when fresh) through a paper towel. Gets all the bits out from the start. If some grease in the jar you okay to filter fresh off the stove. If no grease in jar, then may want allow the grease to cool down just a little before filtering to avoid cracking the jar. Though some cloth like a tea towel might be better for filtering. Less hassle.

Strain it through a coffee filter off the bat and it will come out pretty clean, no chunks, and still have all the bacon flavor

Love this!!! Thanks for sharing! ❤

HUGE THANK YOU for this EZ method!!
@curtisforcum
I like it when you learn something everyday!

Haha I thought I was the only one who knew about the "washing" method! Of course not 😅 this is the best and easiest way to go about it. Coffee filter can take fooorrrreeevvveeerrrr and this does the exact same thing but way better. Any solids that would have been blocked in the filter will settle to the bottom of the water while upside down in the jar, and a filter isn't getting all of the water solubles and other junk that will make it through the filter! "Wash"

NOT COLD WATER!!

Grease look a bit dark. Cook bacon at lower temperature for longer the lard will stay much more white.

This looks like the most efficient method I’ve ever seen. This is really timely, as I’m about to try this for the first time, With the intention of making soap from the grease.
@donmiller1728
I still get a lot of water in the grease after the process. How do you get rid of that?
@cameronford5473
I accidentally left mine in the freezer last night and it all froze can I just let it thaw, and then let it harden again
