How To Clean A Muzzleloader | How To Load A Muzzleloader

This video is about how to load a muzzleloader and how to clean a muzzleloader. It is directed towards anyone who is curious about how to use a muzzleloader. I show you how to load a 50 caliber muzzleloader. I also clean a muzzleloader with hot water which is a cheap way to clean a muzzleloader. I use Crisco as a bore and breach plug lubricant instead of Bore Butter or other muzzleloading lubricant. Using traditional tools and methods of hunting can be very rewarding. I hope this helps nudge someone to give muzzle load hunting a try.

You are soooo right. ML is a very simple process but a lot of shooters are intimidated with the loading and cleaning. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the video. I have a TC Omega with a blued barrel. The thought of running water down the barrel and all over the trigger mechanism scares the heck out of me. I already have a little rust on the barrel where it is hidden by the stock. Apparently it got wet and never was properly cleaned. But I have heard of guys soaking their guns in hot water in the bathtub so apparently it works. Not for me though with my blued gun. In terms of lube, I just clean mine with patches and then lube it with a patch soaked with hoppes gun oil. Seems to work ok. And you’re right about primers, you can’t have enough of those around!

@@NotchingTags If you had ever owned a Savage 10ML muzzleloader, which shoots smokeless powder, you would understand the difference in cleaning.

If I were to do it again this is what I would buy. It's the same thing I have, only a lot more convenient.

You never mentioned the the bad side of this… your wife will yell at you for cleaning the muzzle loader in the house not to mention her sink because of the smell. It stinks!! I feel this is a bit of old school but it work well. The hot water breaks everything down for easy cleaning. Use water as hot as you can stand. Do it long enough to heat the metal. The heat helps with faster drying and moisture evaporation. No water sitting for rust to start.
