    Thanks for this info. I dont need now as at the moment engine was running fine until I changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor button. Now it wont start. I did not romove the negative terminal on battery and I think I have caused myself a problem. Do you have any idea why it went from turning over and running, now, nothing, wont even turn over. Did I fry the PCM by not removing the negative cable before removing rotor, button and wires? Help....

    I highly doubt you fried your PCM . check to make sure your battery cables are clean and have good contact especially the ground cable to the frame and the ground strap from the engine block to the frame ( located by distributor) Also try jiggling your shifter in park back-and-forth while trying to crank. It might be the neutral safety switch in the shifter?? Let me know if that helps!

    When my 99 Cherokee refused to start, I was scratching my head and losing my mind. Everything was correct. It was suggested to me that the hall effect sensor had crapped out. The engine would just crank and turn over, but not run. Changed out the hall effect sensor underneath the rotor and ignition!

    Thanks for the replies. So, summary, its running again. The fix was doing what you suggested plus a little more. Bought some brass marine quick disconnect battery terminals. Cliped off the old postive and negative terminals. Peeled back insulation and exposed clean copper wiring. Bought 4 ring terminal ends and soldered them on stock wiring. Crimped all connections for good measure. Then heated up the shrink tube I put on after sliding it into place to creat weather resist seal on cables and connectors. Check and tightened ground. Then, ignition and FIRE :) Bottom line: Crappy old OEM connections needed long overdue replacement and maintenence that was neglected far too long. Maintenece done and She started right up. Thanks Mugiver......for the wiring and ignition checkup suggestions! 👍👍👍
