    A video of basic instrument care or a compilation of videos, like this one, that gives you necessary information of proper handling and care to keep your Kiesel like new. Also, mentioning if there are different methods or techniques for different woods or finishes. Also, what NOT to do. Tutorials from Jeff Kiesel himself. :) I think that would be awesome. Great video.

    I use this cleaning method as well. But I do not use compressed air at first . I first use a feather paint brush that is super soft to remove metal steel wool pieces from the guitar. Then I vacuum them up as much as possible so they do not scatter around the house or shop. Then I blow out the rest. On bolt on necks. I take them off the body removing all possibilities of the metal sticking to the pickups. I do love that guitar though.

    I usually wipe off the boogers with a very slightly moist towel 1st, and then a dry towel and linseed oil after. That usually does it. Steel wool on frets if needed. The wool works good to smooth out a rough non lacquered fretboard. I also recommend using a fretboard protector while polishing frets by hand, especially on a lacquered fretboard (they are couple bucks on eBay) Easier than taping the fretboard and neck. Love my DC727!

    I would stay away from using a magnet. I've heard stories of the extra magnetic field weakening pickups over time. I stay away from steel wool all together because it is abrasive, even at such a light gauge. Check out Gorgomyte cloth. It's completely non abrasive and conditions the wood as well.

  • @onpsxmember

    @onpsxmember

    Those gorgomyte cloths are great when you're working on a really dirty guitar. Also not bad maybe once every few years. Not a fan of the steelwool, I prefer the fretwire erasers and finish with a wheel on a proxxon rotary tool (a dreml is sooo much louder...day/night difference) for the final buffing.

    Will you do a step-by-step video series on how to build a guitar? I've been doing some research for over a year while I save up for the rest of the tools I'll need; but most tutorials and guides I've found are either just bits and pieces of the process or the end product doesn't appear to be high quality. I realize I'm not going to make outstanding instruments right off the bat. However I do feel I would stand a much better chance watching and learning from a master guitarsmith such as yourself. Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a slightly different approach, as all my maple-board bass guitars are high-gloss urethane (or poly) finishes.. I use the painter's tape to mask off the wood between the frets, and clean the frets with Scotchbrite and follow that with a good metal polish (in my case, AutoSol SOLVOL). I then use a car polish (Meguire's) to clean the maple fretboard, (I will use a soft toothbrush to get the smegma up against the frets) and follow it up with an automotive cream paste wax (again, Meguire's). YMMV, one man's opinion, just my .02 etc, etc.

    What about the back of the neck? How do you clean, go with grain? Love to see that because that’s always dirtier than your fretboard.

    Pretty much the same process for the tung oil finish necks but if you add some wax on top of that varnish after it dries, you'll feel a LOT less friction and add another layer of protection to the wood.

    I'd use the accompanying company's wax. For Minwax it's just called Minwax finishing wax. Instead of Minwax tung oil finish, I use Birchwood Casey Tru oil and Gunstock wax. It's also a nice varnish and for me is easier to find.

    The next vid should be on neck maintenance for the tung oiled backsides. Or if it is the same as the board.

    I'd like to see a video of you making your new Vintage 31. A single channel, dual 6L6 amp with footswitchable reverb and effects loop. A half power switch, direct out and 4, 8 and 16 ohm speaker jacks. Covered in your newly offered fawn tolex with brown leather handle and corner protectors. :) You know you want to make one! I know I'd love to own one.

    For all of you saying "Don't use steel wool! "It'll scratch and leave marks on the wood". You are incorrect. Not if you are using 0000 steel wool. In furniture refinishing, we use a more coarse steel wool for stripping paint, lacquer or other wood finishes. Like a number 2 or 3. Then we move up to finer grades while cleaning and prepping the surface to be refinished. We end up with a 0000 grade to actually polish the piece to take out any scratches or swirl marks. If you use light pressure and a vigorous back and forth, you will NOT scratch your fretboard or your frets even going against the grain. I don't use Tung Oil on my fretboard though. I use something called guitar honey on my Rosewood fretboard afterward and it looks great when I'm finished. Trust me. Try using the 0000 steel wool and you'll see how easy it is to clean a dirty fretboard and give your frets a nice polished, smooth shine.

    Would the steel wool remove fine scratches ?.
