How To Clean A Carburetor

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I got this off Amazon for $3 more than the price for the solenoid. This carburetor is meant as replacement for Kohler 20 853 01-S 20 853 02-S 20 853 14-S 20 853 16-S 20 853 42-S 20 853 43-S 12 853 107-S 12 853 117-S Lawn Mower Engine Motor SV Series SV590 SV591 SV600
While i have it sitting here, i take it apart to show you how to clean a carburetor like that. And just in case you play with the thought of buying one, then you can see, that it is well made.
My thought was, that if the OEM carburetor was made in China, then why not but this one, that is also made in China for way less money than the OEM part.
Let me know your thoughts on this in the comments!

Every time I try to fix something I just make it worse and then end up paying someone to fix it. I have a mower with a 14hp Kohler. Been sitting 7 years and won’t start. I just did exactly what’s in this video and it started right up. Thanks for posting this. Saved me some money.

My Kohler shredder/chipper was only a year old and I couldn't get it started. I took off the carb and watched this video to make sure everything was clean. Added fresh gas and it started on the first pull! Thank you so much for your helpfulness!

Also there is a small Welch plug on the side of that carburetor you can remove to get to the low idle adjustment screw.

UPDATE: this carb just broke after 6 years, and again i got a new carb from Amazon for $21 now. That's not too bad for the price.

You have a link to get this carb? I've already watched the solenoid repair video which i ordered that kit but i'm afraid when i take it off and replace the solenoid the bowl gasket is gonna need replaced. Thought about just going ahead and getting a new carb. My yth20k46 is 11 years old and this will be the first time i have taken the carb off. My solenoid isn't working.

well. good on you. i have several MTD lawnmowers, some fixed. some not. the engine is all aluminum. one, spark plug loose, buggered up threads.toast. the carbs on these newer ones, has a plastic float, and some gaskets to the housing, rot and break up. These carbs are not very good, at all. anyway, thanks for the info.

There is only one screw for adjustment of the engine idle speed. Warm the engine up, then adjust the idle speed. Not too fast, and not too slow. If it shuts down or shakes a lot in idle, then turn it up a little higher. You are going to run the engine in full throttle most of the time anyway.

It's a welch plug that covers that hole you showed @2:38 into the video....... It's not really required but it is missing.... It's a silver colored disc just like the one you showed on the side of the carb........... Like I said no need to be alarmed, but that's the way they make cheaper carbs ...... Plus Tard Mon Ami ~!~!

Maybe you should consider a brand new carb from Ebay. Sometimes they have real good prices.

I have checked them out on Amazon and eBay. I am a bit leary about the Chinese made carbs. The original part isn't too cheap. They run right around 120 dollars. I think that I need to get a thinner half inch wrench. I was trying to use a metric wrench and it kept slipping.

Nice overview. Also, got me more comfortable buying a cheaper replacement Carb. Particularly since the old one is discontinued with no official rebuild kits, and if I end up finding too many problems/issues I don't "have to" spend 6x as much for a working Carb (assuming everything lines up and quality is better then a Carb with 35 years service)
