I love the giant fleet SL saddle been through many saddles over the years and low and behold my favourite is one that came with a bike 😄 win win

I’ve been using Fizik Agro Vento R1 for 4 years …long ride … short ride no issue …. love it.

Nobody noticed most importnt thing makes this fellas choices& this particular shootout so stellar. People choosing identical basic characteristics/shape seen predominant now. Same as 3 of 10 seats i test won a shootout recently. Same bascic firm foam& SHAPE. There is MORE 2 this SHAPE then u people are grasp = I bought THREE seats Amazon while back held same pattern ($35 for 3 saddles.) My favorite BROLEO: With artificial fat/memory foam gel chro molly rails, SHORT nose 240mm& BIG CUTOUT = save weight 228 grams wider then ave. SLOPED SIDES left/right coupled with short nose = roomy standover/easy mount dismount VERY IMPORTNT. ...&YOU CAN CONSTANTLY MOVE AROUND ON IT EXPLOIT ITS FIRMNESS 2both REDUCE FATIGUE IN HANDLING THBIKE DISTRIBUTE PRESSURE POINTS simply balance better. Hide appropriately THIN&ELASTIC. AND slippery = allow perform constant precision gymnastics. (I also chose wide nose PTERSTY saddle & BEIDUOYANG $12 a piece.)

Very timely video to confirm I made a decent choice in purchasing the Fizik Argo Adaptive R3 (was unsure about the 10mm carbon rails on the R1 fitting in my clamps). Hopefully I find it suits me just as well!

Kind of funny about saddles. I am what skinny ass cyclists euphemistically call a Clydesdale rider. You would think I would want a large saddle with lots of padding. I'm sure I have spent $1000 trying out expensive high end saddles seeking out the holy grail. Fast forward a few years and I am down to 2 on 2 different bikes. They are essentially the same traditional shape except more flat in the sit bone area and the do have a pressure relief channel. One is a Specialized Versus EVO with very firm dense padding which I find to be much more comfortable than any other type of padding.... about $300 and my favorite. But a close second, and essentially the same shape except zero padding is a Ultralight Hollow Out Spider Saddle, kind of a woven plastic with holes. It was $16. It is nearly as comfortable as my Specialized, because although it has no padding it does give just enough because since it is fixed to the rails front and back it acts like a sling that smoothes out the bumps. It is super lightweight. The holes are also important on longer rides for the air circulation they provide.

I wish I could have loved the fizik 3d saddle. I used it for about a week and perhaps I didn't give myself as much time as I could have to get used to it but I kept moving around the saddle and standing up on the pedals because I didn't find it comfortable. I wanted to like it because of how amazing it looks on the bike. I had to stick with my fizik tempo Argo instead. Great videos like always David!

I’ve just started riding a Giant Contend AR1. Lovely bike but the saddle was crippling in the “soft tissue “ area. Temporarily put my old MTB saddle on which is very comfortable and no heavier but not made any more. So now I’m off to play saddle roulette, trying to find one that works as well.

I loved the Spec Power sadle too, as far as a platform to sit on, it fit my behind perfectly. However, its wide flare caused some rubbing on the inside of my legs, so i had to let this sadle go sadly. I have heard similar stories from other riders. But now I am riding its successor, the Power Arc that is slightly more rounded, so far, its excellent 👌 ATB, Gerlach Sven.

I found the same thing with the Power. It felt fine pulling out of the driveway, but 30-40 minutes later....😢

David (and/or Andrew) based on your experience with lots a sadles, can you recommend a sadle with the same fit and feel as the Power, but with less flare? ATB

My friend has been a national team racer:" by a decent saddle and get used to it" ( if your a** isnt too indifferent). Good video, btw!

i did my first NA century 100 mile on a supacaz carbon really long and lightweight saddle but quickly realized there was more to it than some numbers and matericals. i now happily ride the slr super boost super flow in the smallest size and it's great. might be persuaded to try a san marco saddle but spending 500 big ones is like new car down payment. . . yeesh.

Any idea when the new Antares adaptive saddle, that is shown in the video, will be launched? Thanks!

I switched to that same Aliante a few months ago on my new Ti frame and my mind is blown by what I've been missing out on riding the wrong saddle (Antares) for nearly a decade. After trying 5 or 6 saddles when I got into road cycling I arbitrarily settled on that Antares because it was the least bad. Now I can't even feel that Aliante even after 2-3 hours.

David what is your sitbone distance? That would help a lot in us deciding if your preferences are likely to work for us. My Sitbone distance is a narrow 116mm which surprised me as I am 190cm tall and would have expected wider but it helped me find the Ergon SR pro and SM pro as my favorite among the 5 or 6 other saddles I’ve used

Very constructive video. Thank you. IMHO, I’m going to stick my neck out and make some over-generalized and perhaps obvious or conversely inept observations. The higher and more forward the saddle position the narrower the saddle should be to accommodate the position of the legs. A lower and more backward saddle position allows a wider saddle. If the saddle is so far back, however, as to extend the reach without some accommodation with stem length or handlebar size and position, it could mitigate that somewhat. How aggressive a position the upper body is in also has some bearing with a slight tendency for aggressive to usually opt for narrower; and, when sitting upright opting for a wider, more cushy, weight bearing saddle. Forgive me. I speak as a fool. All the best.

I bought the 3D Printed carbon version. And also bought it in 143 instead of my normal 152. Best saddle ever. Looks like the sitting bones measurements was wrong.

Good video, thank you! What is quite shocking is width difference between these saddles you like most: Spec Power (which seems very wide) vs Fizik Argo Adaptive (looks narrow). Wondering if that wasn't deciding factor why you're not mentioning Specialized Power with full Mirror as your favourite?

I was looking for the perfect saddle and tried some from Fizik (Arione), Selle Italia (SLR Boost), Ergon (Sr Pro Carbon), but i ve stayed with 3d printed AliExpress saddle from Ryet. So cheap that i could set up all my bikes with them and i will never go back

The Selle Italia Q-Bik that came with my Cube mountain bike was awesome, but the Fizik Aliante R5 that came with the Orbea Avant I got a few weeks ago has been terrible. Looking around for something new and haven't decided on anything yet. Going to get a new chamois and see if the old ones are just work out. Nice to see some of the options that work for other people though.

Cut outs always suck it moves pressure and increases it from less surface area. A form or shape that fits you is ideal. A custom mold or even cork is my genius invention. There is never a one size fits all.

for me the difference between a horrible saddle vs great saddle is often just the position and also my bibs... got some new bibs and think the slightly thicker padding is giving me grief in the worse possible place on long rides. If I had got these earlier I would 100% think I needed a new saddle. I am no racer but my short faster two-three hour rides I am not very picky, its the long all day rides like my bike trips that really get me... wish I could get a really detailed in depth bike fitting but its not really a thing here from what I can tell. No tools or anything just a guy eyeballing you and seemingly all about the road / racing side of cycling. ***its been well over 15 years since I have seen loaner saddles at bike shops, just drop your 200 and hope for the best. Thats why I try and buy used and dump the ones that do not work back on ebay and buy a new version or two of the one I like.

Cadex Amp is meant to be excellent

Ive been riding a Ryet (ali express) carbon 3d printed saddle for about a year now. Its a touch wide in the nose but very comfortable and 4000miles still looks brand new! £40 inc delivery and weighs 165 grams!

I got the same saddle back in November and I’ve been so impressed by it. Feels like a steal really. A few people I know have bought the same or at least a similar Ryet one and all are impressed

I was told by my sport store that basically saddles are expected to be uncomfortable but that you absolutely need bike shorts with padding inside. Was I just upsold or is this true?

Not the truth at all! I have never once felt discomfort on my saddle. I have the fizik te por argo r1. Everyone's butt will choose a different saddle. You just have to keep looking until you find the right one. I couldn't stand the fizik vento adaptive saddle, for example. I also had a selle italia slr boost that I couldn't finish one ride with it and I sold it to a friend who says it's the best saddle he's ever used and he's been riding for over 25 years. You'll find the right one trust me.

@@ketle369 i have a trek fx sports 6. The default saddle hurt me like hell. Both my cheekbones but mostly the soft tissues between the anus and balls felt squished and super sore after 10-20 minutes on the bike and worse afterwards due to recovery time etc. (sorry for graphic description). They gave me another saddle late last year and I still have to test it but it didnt immediately seem that much more comfortable since it was also very hard but it will require more testing once the snow is gone. And of course I now have padded shorts. I never had any pain before getting this bike but I usually had much softer (and heavier saddles) as I never bought a more expensive bike before this one. So its definitely an irritant.

True that you should have padded bike shorts (bib shorts are even better), not true that saddles are expected to be uncomfortable.
