How to choose elliptical trainer. Just 2 things to know.

There only two major things to look at before buying elliptical trainer. Everything else, like the amount of difficulty levels or mountain climbing imitating programs are just secondary things.

Why haven't I bought a treadmill? On a treadmill you put a lot more force to the knees when you land down. On elliptical you don't fall down instead you slide down gradually without any jumping force to the knees. And also, small tip - before I go, I drink a cup of flavory water and eat some chocolate. Gives me an energy boost :)

My 2 important things on an elliptical: 1) The heavier the flywheel the smoother and more stable you are. And 2) Look for an elliptical that can handle a lot of weight. 300 lbs plus is strong.

Love this video! My wife and I are looking for a good trainer and she's looking at screen sizes, smartphone capability, speakers, all the bells and whistles! Meanwhile I'm like no, I'll put a TV and a stereo in the garage where we'll use it, don't worry about that stuff. I just don't want to feel like I'm holding the damn thing together whilst I'm using it. This video offers great practical advice on what to look for. I have definitely used elliptical trainers at the gym that felt like Stairmasters, and you want it to be sturdy. I'll send her this video and see if I can change her thinking, wish me luck!

Thank you for your second point, about the height differences of your feet when using the elliptical. I wondered why some ellipticals fell so very odd. There is so much marketing crap out there for every product. I also don't need the fancier computer and programming. If bored then I can use my own devices.

I think another point to make, in terms of stability is that, one of the main spots to look for is how the neck or mast is attached to the rest of the machine. Because if you're using your upper body in conjunction with your lower body, that's going to put strain on the mast of the machine. It's going to put a twisting pressure on it. So if the mast is cheaply attached, it will start loosening and squeaking. Wherever the mast is attached is the weakest point and needs to withstand that twisting pressure over a long period of time in order to be worth purchasing. edit: So basically, the more parts you have to assemble, the greater risk there is for the machine to loosen up at those points of contact.
