This video is as good as it gets. Short, straight to the point, and gives you everything there is to know about it. Please do more how-tos, especially on Volvos. It helped me a lot as a young tech.
Thanks Seba & Jose! Good idea with such shorts. Very informative & it's keeping the channel alive!
Thank you for this video fellas, much needed information
👍 Another value to our community!! Thank you guys!
You can tell he’s a damn good mechanic, great video and right too it.
I’ve been trucking for five years and didn’t know kingpins were on steering tires. Learn something new everyday
Great video! Thanks
This is very valuable information about front axles, thanks
You guys are life savers thx you so much ❤
Thanks guys this video really helped me.
Great info🤙
Good stuff, thank you.
Thanks for the info. TRUCK YOO!
Thanks for the tips, doing my old cab over soon, shimmying around 60mph. Just had a 3 axle alignment and all ten new rimscand tires trued and balanced, replaced rear intermediate shaft and universal joints. Most common cause of equipment failure is LOL=lack of lubrication. If you run your own truck and don't have a grease gun onboard and these failures happen blame the guy starring back at you while you brush those teeth
Thank you for the information
Awesome, many thanks
Porter greetings.🤩 It has been such a long time since I checked the kingpins for any play, especially a big semi. If your camera was on the ground or a stand you could see it better. What I’ve found is this…If you do one side you should do BOTH because it will eventually happen to both sides of it’s not already. Agree? Now the big question is how many hours and cost does it entail for just the kingpins? Please advise. 🧐
That jack on ubolt very questionable???
Please do more diagnostic like this. Great info. Would be great if you went into “Odd tire ware “ show what causes them. I always have trailers with uneven ware the tire shops just scratch there head like they don’t know the underlying cause. & just slap new tires on and send us on our way. But I know that’s just putting a temp fix. It still eats the next tire the same way

Tell me about it man. No mechanic will take their honest time to do a proper diagnosis. They are as good as a dealership nowdays. We have ended up with lousy guys as mechanics, very unprofessional, and just want to make money. That's all.they care. Keep paying them bills
I was lucky to catch mine early as soon as I felt it and saw tire wear. Was not ready for that repair bill.
I deliver next door. That’s crazy I knew this was the shop and never actually been inside. Thanks for the tips.
Great video, i would say a lack of grease on the king pin will wear the bushes out quickly, every 2 months or so , to grease them up...

I made a bar which I call a hocky stick. Its about 5 feet long anf looks like a "J". The way he checked it at first thats how I check. In Ontario Canada we are only allowed 1/8" of movement. Before it was 1/2 inch
Hey I got the same wear on My steers and a wobble/vibration under me not the wheel that comes n goes after 35mph it will do do it for hours then won't do it for hours I've replaced drive tires steers driveline center bearing shocks Torque rods but cnt find the issue been to multiple shops as well where u think I should check next. Thank You
alignment shop telling me you need to replace king pins because one of my drive tire is bad, is that possible? thanks for youre information

When I go around curbs it feels like I'm sliding across ice. Also I have a lil too much play for my comfort. Does that mean I need to change my king pins?
Where ur shop at I would like to see if u could have a look at my truck
Porter greetings! 🇺🇸 Usually, if you have wear on the kingpin on the left side, would you also have wear on the right side as well? Did this truck get both replaced? Around how much would this cost in your shop? Generally speaking, I’ve learned that whatever you do to one side you also should do to the other side, even if there are NO signs of problems on the other side. This is what I’ve learned and what others have told me. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing. 🥰🤩✌️
Would this cause grinding when turning slightly, right?
I’m hearing clicking from my steer axle. Guess my king pins are going bad. I have yet to do it have over 1 million miles on my 579
The movement felt in this video could also be wheel bearing play ?
I have a 2014 Hino box truck and what you demonstrated is exactly what i am experiencing. Thanks,

@@MagDag_ I did my 2012 freight shaker, new kings pins, front brake shoes, new bearings, and tie rod ends, for under $1000 bucks in parts. Got it all done over a weekend in my driveway. these shops are a rip off.
How expensive is that replace the king pins?
Would this cause inside wear?
Hi, are doing caster alignment at your shop? I have a 2019 VNL860 which is pulling really bad to the right. Alignment was done 3 times already, new tires and it didn’t help at all. One of the shops told me the caster is out of speck and that may be the problem.

Look up “how to align your semi truck layman’s” great video on how to check everything with basic tools. Alignment shops are terrible. Diy is the way to go.
Great tip, but what if your wheel bearing is loose?
@princepanda816
2 жыл бұрын
A way I use to confirm if it’s a bad king pin is that I put my finger where the axle meets the spindle and pry on the wheel. If it moves I know the problem is kingpins. But if not it’s probably a bearing issue, then I torque the bearing and check for play again. It always works for me.

Check bearings i jack up wheel push top of tire and check play, this guy does the king king test property, buy checking from the bottom of the tire. I never put it in the rim holes but I built a bar that looks like a "J" its about 5 feet long
Apply service brakes to distinguish king pin play from steering axle wheel hub bearing looseness .
Its good send it
What about shaking from 50 to 85
Most places won't let diagnose with the mechanic is I just drive away and fix it myself🐺
I’m looking to buy a freightliner cascadia what years would you say is the best dd15 far as reliability and what years would you stay away from
@realskata16
4 ай бұрын
I’ve always heard to not buy a truck with the dd15, many mechanics in my area say this and that the dd13 is much easier and cheaper as far as rebuilding goes when that time comes. Have you bought a truck yet
The wear in the tire it’s in the inside where all the weight go.
Thank you for this very informative video. Now I'll be able to verify what the mechanic is telling me
Yep getting mines replaced now 3100$ way too much shaking in drives.
@realskata16

Is it doing better now? Dang that’s expensive. I was quoted $1700 parts and labor but that’s on 1995 peterbilt
Wobble is balance AMIGO! This Axle isnt bad, they should have showed bearing check and tierod check. KINGPINS are around $1500.00 labor and service.
That's exactly what mine is doing between 40 and 45 and 50 miles an hour is a 2022 Kenworth with only 93,000 miles
I got my ki gpins checled and said they are good, got new tires and got all 3 axles aligned and got tires balanced and still truck is shaking at about 45-50 mph. Shocks are 5 months old and also got king pins done about 6 months ago. Any other ideas on fixing that wobble?

Why Jack it up on the U bolt? That doesn't look good but idk maybe there's a reason
Can you just replace the shim/washer whatever you want to call it, can it just be replaced without having to buy a new king pin?

A little vertical play is not an issue in my opinion. Worn bushings would cause lateral play which requires repair.
@elkservices8780
Жыл бұрын
@hakunamatataadventurebus5944 what about in lateral bushing wear just change the bushings you think that works????
Anyone can do that, but do you know how to get the readings of a failed king pins. There is a procedure using a dial caliper.
👍
Thats toe in,,king pin it's ok,,check rear alignment,..
Is the truck sitting on the ground? So I don't need to raise it up off the ground?
@michaelbraddy2463
2 ай бұрын
You have to raise it until the tires are not touched the ground
That wear is absolutely not kingpins. That is lack of rotation. Ever notice how its the outside of the right tire and inside of the left tire? Also you don't use a bar for checking king pins. Using a bar is for ball joints and has become common from auto mechanics working on large trucks and thinking the procedure is the same. I can almost guarantee that kingpin was not bad.
@realskata16

So what would you use to check them? My driver tire is true and square when looking across it but my 3 month old passenger side steer tire is wearing more round on the edges inside and out but not the middle.
Era!!! Wheres Richie
Lock the brake up and take away wheel bearing play. Or just maintain the kingpins properly
What your grease said 👏 😏
This is b.s because he dont have a gauge to see the manufacture spec !
You may want to get a tripod for your camera. That's some really shaky camera work.

All he had to do was stabilize his hand on the bumper. Fkn annoying.
how not to jack up a truck 101
Suggest you hold the camera steadier or get a tripod.
where's your dial indicator? there's an actual in service spec. You don't guess. Use the proper tool to measure and check manufacture specifications.
Imagine blow out on the wheel .. would take out the fuel filter
Real test is you have to disconnect Tie rods !
Good info but the shakiness of the camera is unbearable.
There is nothing wrong with that kingpin.

You could see it on camera if u left it alone, he's constantly moving it
The camera guy needs to not move/swing the camera so much...I'm getting dizzy trying to watch.
people don’t realize their front axles might have a slight bend. a good alignment shop will bend them back
They are fine. Hardly any movement. Rip off mechanics
