    I just primered a door, fender, and bumper with laquer primer about an hour ago and I have a very low orange peel. How long do I wait till I can wet sand it? What grit paper should I use to wet sand it? How "flat" should the primer be? How long do I wait until I spray single stage catalyzed color on top? Love your channel and been subscribed for a while!

  • @LakesideAutobody

    @LakesideAutobody

    You can really sand it as soon as you can sand it. I'd give it a few hours though. If it's flat and you don't have to block sand then use 320-400 to wet sand with. It should be flat as glass - no orange peel left. It does take a bit of work but we used to wet sand whole cars - no problem. It's good for the arms too 💪. You can spray paint right after you wet sand. Cars can literally be painted in one day if you are hustling 😊

  • @LakesideAutobody

    @LakesideAutobody

    Жыл бұрын

    Don't pull too much! In the next video that is sort of demonstrated by pulling a little more each time. Even if you need to pull it 1/4" more it might take 3 or 4 tries because you're being super careful not to over pull. There are options to fix it though if you do so, no worries. Great question. I will write that down and maybe do a video on that one day - "How to Avoid Over Pulling a Frame" or "What to do When you Over Pull a Frame"

    is the only consequence parts not fitting correctly ? are there other areas where frame damage occur ?

  • @LakesideAutobody

    @LakesideAutobody

    The consequences of not pulling the frame completely straight is sometimes drivability issues, parts not fitting, etc. Mostly parts not fitting. One this car, there were no other frame damage other than the bumper reinforcement being bent - here's that video - kzread.info/dash/bejne/fZqlqNZrgMbAm5M.html

  • @plushbatfan

    The vehicle is likely to be a total loss when the repair values are much higher than the wrecked car value, it all depends on the adjuster. Anytime a car frame is bent and especially not safe to drive, the vehicle is considered totaled.

    I have a 1996 Lexus LX450 SUV body on frame, it was in an accident, it was hit on passenger front side and passenger rear quarter panel/tail light area. I can’t see any visual frame damage anywhere but I can’t get the hood aligned after I’ve replaced all the wrecked parts. Can the frame be slightly bent/twisted or damaged in any other way? Can the body be twisted on the frame? I’ve looked all over the frame and theres no visual damage. Thank you!

  • @LakesideAutobody

    @LakesideAutobody

    Жыл бұрын

    @@bigred9049 It varies a lot from shop to to shop. I used to charge 800 on average for a paint job on a car with an average amount of rust. That was cheap even in the 80's. Today just to replace a rocker panel, it can cost 800 or more per side. Full paint jobs can easily cost over $2000. Labor costs in most body shops is around $80/hr and it can take quite a few hours to paint a car so labor and materials can add up fast. Hope that gives you an idea :)

    You can tell that there is no damage to that side by looking at the gaps - fender to door & fender to hood. Look for signs of buckling sheet metal (frame) and finally, there are measurements (software) that can be checked - point to point (diagonal). Only problem is getting those measurements unless you work at a shop. Some shops might look that up for you though - nice ones 😊
