    I like that you refer to the grind as an Irish grind.. 45 years ago I was reading Peter Child who was English and got me thinking about bowl gouge grinding.. Your presentation is very good too ..Your English is wonderful too. I have always used a cactus juice like product.. I guess it’s time to try this.. Years ago I found a vacuum pump at a yard sale and was cheap. I change the oil in in the vacuum pump from time to time and still can go to -27.5 bars.. on these old punky bowls I like urathane as a finish and holds up better over time.. Your hollow form bowl is very pretty too .. Thank you.. ☺️👍

    Very nice video, and thanks for the tip about resin thinned with acetone. I will definitely try it. Beautiful hollow vessel as well. If I may offer a design suggestion, on the next one you might consider rounding over the inside and outside edges of the opening to soften the look and blend in better with the nice curves on the rest of the form. Have a great day.

Most of my bowls ia twice turned, roughed first and then turned when finished. after rough turning I end seal with sealer or the cheapest carpenter glue I can find and then water thinned 30 -50 % water .. and then the bowls go to the Kiln I made. I have a video showing how to make one and use it :-) but it take 3 to 4 weeks to dry a big bowl .. kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2ialbeBc9DIe8o.html .. Have a great day and stay safe 😀😀😀

    Gorgeous! I have a bunch of heavily spalted and punky beech that I’ll try the resin/acetone coating on. It’s still wet, do you think it’ll need to be (mostly) dry before coating? Generally speaking resin does not like moisture but I’m not sure if this would hold true in this case.

  • @WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP

    Hi Eric, Well you cant go for a oil finish or anything that need to seep down it to the wood, all the pores off the tree is closed and filed op with the resin..so you need to use wax or a lacquer or something that can harden on the outside and dont need to go indside the wood.. the Hampshire Sheen Gloss wax work great on top and leave a good finish in my opinion, and coloring with spirit and water based colour is out too.. hope that answered you question.. else feel free to write again 😀 thank you very much for watching .. stay safe and have a great day 😀😀😀

  • @WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP

    @WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Sigurdur, Thank you for watching my videos :-) yes I do leave the birch outside .. i leave it direct on the ground without end sealing it and I normal leave it around a year, sometime les time is needed but a year is a good guide .. i then cut off the ends to the burn pile and make blanks and end seal them, and most of the time you get some really nice spaltning.. it do happens that the hole log end in the burn pile if the rotting was to much .. Have a great day and stay safe 😀😀😀

    Cost for good vacumn chambers are 2-3000$ US.. but the injector is about 100$ so much easier to use too and store..
