How to charge your PS4 Controller WITHOUT Burning it out.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi, this video shows you the different ways to charge your PS4 controller (the DualShock4). It shows you which Phone USB chargers you can and can't use. A lot of users have had problems using chargers that allow the quick charge facility on their phones as these chargers can output 9v or even 12v which can lead to your controller heating up and then causing the battery to fail. To be safe it would be best to stick to a 5v only USB charger which has an output of 800mA or higher.

hello, i have a charger here that is 5.2 V and 1.35A, i think the 1.35A should be fine cuz the controller only taked 800, but i dont know if the 5.2V is fine, since the controler needs 5V, i think you know a lot so could you tell me please?

  • @waqasalimalik7508

Usually you should always connect matching value charger with a device (phone, PS4 controller etc) but there is always a margin to stay under or cross the rated value, that margin is usually 4 till 5 percent. So I think connecting a 5.2 V charger (with 1.35 Amps ratings) should be safe but still there is a very small chance that it can cause some harm, I would suggest you to get a 5V charger, now a days they cost 1 till few euros (at least in Germany) Hope that helps.

Thanks for making this video. Many people SWEAR that any usb device that is plugged into ANY usb wall wart will magically automatically only pull in the amount of volts and amps necessary. That is true of cellphones, they won't pull more amps than they need, but not every usb charging device is suitable for charging every device. Your video clearly shows this, and I thank you for explaining things correctly.

Slight nitpick, but the PS4's usb (or any kind of "power supply") does not *push out* amps, it provides up to a certain amount, and the device that receives it (in this case, the DS4) is actually in "control" of how much it *pulls* . Otherwise, you're spot on. Great video.

My lg has a travel adaptor that I use but it says it's quick charging but only outputs 5v = 1.8v (5v = 1.8v) and nothing more like dual output or anything. Is that safe?

Just a note on the dual output chargers. As long as both output voltages are the same, which would be 5V, and the difference is the Ampere, just like my OnePlus Warp Charger rated at 5V=2A 10W and 5V=6A 30W, it's again safe to use them with no worries

My charger says 5v=2A or 9v=2A or 11v=3a and goes on till 20v=3.3A can i still use it because don't have PS4, i bought ds4 for my laptop because xbox controller sucks

  • @eightleggedanarchist

@@Vamsi_Pokanati No, no, no. See, this was already explained in the video. Voltage (V) should never be exceeded. So if you have a charger that goes up to 20V for a device that takes in only 5V, avoid using them together. The current(A), however, can be exceeded without worries, as a device will only take what is needed.

    1) Usually 5V chargers tolerance is 4.8V - 5.2V it means you can use long cable if your charger has more than 5V out. For example my IPOD charger has 5.15V 2) Some USB cables do not support fast charge. So you can use them with fast charger. 3) As far as I know If data pins (2 and 3) shorted fast charging is activated and you will get 9V

Dave Gab pc is better in performance, but consoles are cost effective, not to mention there is only one gaming network on consoles (ex: ps4 uses psn and XB1 uses xb live, but pc got origins, steam, windows store, which divides the pc gaming community) but still I think pc is slightly better, however consoles are a great choice too.

Dave Gab yeah I totally agree dude, I play age age of empires 1 and 2, MKX and CSGO on pc but I play BF and CoD on ps4. also one more thing I should point out is that PC gets out dates quite fast, which means after 6 or 7 years or less, the pc slows down, while console does not, I have a ps2 that I bought on 2006 and it's still here working. mean while I the pc that I bought on the same year is not working anymore, even tho my mom threw my ps2 at least 10 times.

As long as you use 5v(4,7-5,3) there is no problem, chargar can have 100A the controller will draw as much as the dualshock controller bms needs (800 ma- 1A maximum)
