I’ve heard other guys saying it’s the heat that melts the hook and loop. They suggest using backing pads. Came here to research that.

The pad savers do help and I use them with mesh abrasives. However, I find it’s just as easy to replace the hook and loop on the pad with aftermarket stick on material. The hooks on the aftermarket stuff seem to last longer than the OEM material.

Removing sandpaper does wear down the Velcro but the main cause of wear is the heat generated from sanding. It slowly melts hooks and causes them to curl inward or become brittle and snap, you can verify this with a magnifying glass on the cause and condition of them. Using a vacuum to collect dust also draws out heat which also extends the life of the pad hooks.

How do you like the Bosch sander? I'm planning on buying one but I'm deciding between the 5inch and 6 inch.

its a fantastic sander! I would go bigger unless you have a real reason to need a smaller sander. Beast of a machine.

@@SawdustandStuff I prefer the 6 inch but I can't seem to find it anywhere here in Canada. It's all sold out and out of stock. My only choice is to buy it online from the US and pay the shipping fees.
