hey it's your fault if you put a dumb name back on the PS3 or if you started on PS4, people need to think before they put something. Because Nintendo won't let you change anything either, Microsoft is the only one that won't hurt you if you change the name, but they will charge you.

I just changed my id name for the first time on my ps5 for free and nothing bad happened. And my new name appears on every game like cod just so anybody else is unsure about changing their ID name. It worked for me but good luck to you guys

If there’s one question we should be asking Sony, is why haven’t they attempted to rework the online id change feature to ensure that no issues arise and if this can also be resolved for PlayStation users who have already changed their usernames or have reverted back to their old usernames? You can literally change your username on any of Microsoft’s Xbox platforms and nothing will be affected by it. Purchases, trophies, game functionality, save data, saved game data, leaderboard data etc. Why hasn’t Sony tried to make their feature more like the one Xbox has? They’ve had over 4 years to work on it. Why do they need to keep testing games when they could just rework it?

I would figure it's because game designers were not programming for a potential name change until halfway through the PS4 lifespan. So many games were put out during that time, and so it was too hard to make the name change function properly on all of them, after the fact.

I changed my ID for free back in 2020, nothing bad happened to me and I still had my progress. Games like Fortnite won’t be affected at all as your progress is saved on your epic games account and isn’t relied on PSN

In my research I never came across anyone saying they lost purchases. There would have been a public outcry probably. As for someone writing down your ID, I have trouble imagining any kind of malicious thing they can do with it. Those IDs are publicly displayed within games all the time. The most they would be able to do is message you, but you can block users.

All PS5 games were made with the name change in mind. Older systems had some games created before the name change ability was known to be a thing. The worry is with those games.

It shouldn't delete it. The only games I experience progress issues on is PS3 games if you ever decide to boot up your PS3 again and Little Big Planet 3 which as of right now is the only PS4/PS5 game that I found out that experiences progress issues upon name change
