Fantastic video! I'm 81 years old and our filter tank is in a tight enclosure, so I can't do it myself, but at least I know the procedure now and can check to make sure the pool service technician is doing it right. Thanks so much for posting this video.
Excellent instruction. I have a sand filter over here in Spain and I feel more comfortable knowing that I have ….a. Been on the right lines but ….b. Now know exactly how to do this with no guesswork. Thanks a million.
Crushed this tutorial! Thank you for efficiently demystifying this process and the overall assembly of the filter. You got another sub.
This is a do it yourself, with your tutorial and thorough explanation. Saved $400.
One of the BEST instructional videos I've ever seen! Thanks!
Thanks….excellent video. I’m a 74 year old lady who likes to DIY everything I can. This has been a very clear tutorial.
I love all your video.I learn A lot since I start watching your videos, I own the pool since last year and I take care of my pool my self, also I figured I can do almost everything for my pool. cleaning changing sand, fixing and changing part! lol and Im so grateful for the all the knowledge and explanation. Thank you
Great Video. I just finished the job. My filter is 30 years old and I am pretty sure the sand had never been replaced, we have owned the pool for 21 years. The bottom half below the laterals was like concrete. My first indication that this was the case was last winter when I drained the filter, the water flow was very slow..... It was a turd to dig the old sand out as it was so hard, vacuumed the first half down to the laterals, removed them, then dug out the rest with a strong scoop, Our pool never cleared this year for the first time, and that was what prompted the mission. $ 50 for the sand. I found that the top of the backwash system was a bit cracked so I opted to replace the laterals/pipe for $200. All other parta were fine.
Just getting the pool fired up this year and noticed my operating pressure after backwash is about 13 (normal).. but, within 8-10 hrs, it's up around 23. My filter sand is about 7yrs old. I was suspecting this was the problem. Thanks for the video, Mark.
Thank you! First time pool owner and I was able to do this all myself in a few hours with your clear instructions!
This was all the information we needed, and no extraneous stuff. Excellent!
Very helpful thanks. We are changing the sand for the very first time in my father in law inground pool. He never changed it (didn't new you had too) in over 20 years......
Thanks Mark for this clear video. I will do the sand replacement with confidence.
The best video for the Hayward Pro filter sand replacement. You covered every detail. Thanks.
Awesome job Mark! Can't stop watching your videos.
Your videos are great! Helped me master my new system.
Excellent video! Thanks for making this, I've been trying to figure out how to do this myself. My top gasket is leaking too and it looks easy enough to replace now that I see it.
Excellent tutorial. I was able to confidently change the sand in my Hayward sand filter. Thanks!
Very helpful with the drain cap in the little tool on the end thank you.
This was outstandingly detailed. I will trying this over the weekend. Wish me luck
Thanks for the really good and clear explanation in your videos 🤝
Good video. Makes it easy for the pool owner. Thank you for all your videos, they are very educational.
Very helpfull. I am saving a lot of money by doing the sand replacement myself. I had to replace the lateral assembly which had some damage at the top, I was told I did not backwash enough, and the pressure got to high.
Another great Tutorial-Video...!!Thanks Mark!! :)
Perfect timing! We bought the house 5 years ago and haven't changed our in-ground pool sand filter. So, who knows how long has it been since it was changed. The needle is pointing at "22" and it seems the water isn't circulating as it should be. I'll have your video handy when I'm ready to change the sand. Thank you!
Very knowledgeable ! Video was informative and explained in a simple way ! Great video
Great advise, now I know how to tackle this when it cools down 👍
Excellent. Info. Subscribed😀
Hey Mark, thank you for your videos. They are so helpful!!
Excellent video. This is the same filter and size we have. We need to change our sand, so your video is a great help.
Excellent Video. Thank you for taking the time.
Most informative video!!! Thank you!!!
Such great videos. So informative. Thanks 🙏 heaps.
Excellent video! Thank you!
Very well explained 👏 Thank you Mark
Absolutely perfect explanation. I plan on checking my sand this fall when I shut down, but I have questions. 1. How do I know if the sand is bad and needs changed? 2. I want to rotate the tank so the drain is more easily accessible. Can I just rotate the tank and leave the head in the same place for plumbing? I don't see why not, but thought I'd ask... Thanks!

@@terryjones8360 If you are backwashing more often than normal and you are having to add more chemicals to keep the pool clear, then this is a sign that you need to change the sand. Sand is normally changed about every 3 to 5 years on average. Yes, you can rotate the tank. Thanks for watching.

Please make a video on green algae infested (inground Hayward multivalve sandfilter pool with connected hot tub) clean up tutorial !!!!!! I live in southeast Texas, and you're my favorite pool demonstrating channel. If there were Oscars for pool videos, you would win! My Dad just passed away, and his pool has turtles in it. I intend on getting it clear and utilizing it this season as he was in the process of doing so when he went unexpectedly. Mark, great video...watched 4 of these on replacing sand before myself and son did it. Hardest part was sucking out sand with small shop vac. Our sand was in our filter since installation..about 10 yes ago.I let our filter rest overnight ..and turn on again in morning...is this bad practice?? t hanks again for your video. Our Haywood filter. takes 300 lbs and has older drain plug on it..but works just fine. Laterals were just fine condition. Our top head is showing some wear and tare..pressure gauge is inoperative. thanks, Dave
I paid $15 for large cotton balls instead of sand. I wash them at end of season and wait till next season and reuse.

Hello Mark, thank you for this great video , i have tow questions : 1- when we must change the sands in sand filter ? 2- how much sands we need for HAYWARD NO.S-244T (and also which brand )?
@HallmarkPoolSupplies

It's recommended to change sand in chlorine pools about every 2 to 4 years. The S244T takes 300 lbs. of sand.
The sticker on the side of my filter has come off and blown away with the wind, how do I determine which model filter I have? I have a 22,000 gallon pool and I guess the filter stands 3 1/2 to 4 feet tall.

What is the name or model of the valve on your filter? Does your valve sit on top of the filter or to the side? If it is Hayward or Pentair you can measure the diameter of the filter tank, this will tell me the model and size that you have. Thanks for watching.
Hi Mark. My name is Rick from Ontario, Canada. I just found you about two weeks ago. Your videos and your commentary are awesome. I've had my inground pool for 16 years. I'm do to take out my sand in May. I surehope my Hayward Sand filter has the cap where you can take out the drain insert. Quick question, once you have the old sand out of the filter, where is it best to discard it? Is the sand considered dangerous? Should I wear a mask and gloves? Is the dust hazardous when putting fresh sand back into your filter? Thanks so much for your tutorials. Cheers Mark!!

The sand in the filter is not dangerous and you will be fine when changing the sand. Most people will spread the sand on the ground in an inconspicuous place. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video thank you!!
Question Mark: In the attached video I notice the couplers are positioned away from the filter by several inches with the actual attachment to the filter being a separate join with threads. My installer originally glued and screwed the pipe directly to the tank. Assuming that my install had some flaws which I do not want to repeat, what is the best method of allowing the variable valve to be removed and separated ( I know this is necessary for maintenance)? Can you attach the union (with its own disconnect directly to the variable valve or should it be as your set up showed, attached several inches from the variable valve? Whichever it is, what is the rationale for that? By, the way, a very detailed and easy to uderstand video! Bob

It seems no matter how much rinsing one is doing, there remains scripts of sand on the ball and socket joint. Do small abrasions on the ball and Joint cause damage
@HallmarkPoolSupplies
2 ай бұрын
You should be fine, however make sure that the ball joints are nice and tight and not loose. If the ball joints have gaps or they are loose then sand can get through. There will come a time that you will have to replace the lateral assembly. Thanks for watching.
You are awesome!
GARY here, After installing a new diverter valve insert I’m noticing the returns at the end of the pool have poor pressure but the side return for the cleaner has great pressure what’s wrong
@HallmarkPoolSupplies
2 жыл бұрын
The return closest to the system will have more pressure than the one that is further away. You can change the return inlet with a smaller eye ball this will give you more pressure, it will also help to make the flow in the returns even out. If you have any questions feel free to contact me I will be glad to help.
So instead of vacuuming the sand out, you flush it out of the drain with water? Most videos is see ppl using a vacuum. Thanks

Hi mark thanks for your fantastic videos. I recently re-sanded my 50kg filter with grade 1 glass media. My filter is a particularly old one. initially the results were fantastic. But now the filter is not as effective.. I've learned that I needed to add a higher grade of glass or pea gravel first to prevent the laterals from clogging. Will old sand that needs to be replaced affect the flow of water at your pump? My Pentair pump is not drawing water well and isn't priming. The return water is weak, so the jets are barely pushing water back to the pool. I have had a lot of issues with this darn pool the past two years with leaks along lines that were crushed. I am hoping now that it is just old sand that needs replacing - it is about 7 years old now...
