The factory approved procedure is to loosen the filter first so oil drains out of it. I use a 15/16 wrench/socket for the filter 'bolt'.

I like that top-mount oil filter. Didn't realize it was becoming prevalent. Kind of wish more cars did it that way. Struggling with an oil filter that's mounted the usual open-end-up way is the worst part of oil changes imo.

I found just taking the air filter hose off worked. Never touched the plastic cover. 15/16 socket fit absolutely perfect for the oil filter cover. I did open the oil filter housing while draining the oil. This was my 1st oil change with this van (just bought it). Was very easy and very lil mess with the oil filter on top.

This procedure is little bit scary. Aren't you supposed to loosen that oil filter before you drain? Because once you loosen the filter some oil is gonna drain down to sump due to some vaccum release..Or Am I wrong?

It's always a good practice to put on a new washer on the drain plug for every oil change.

Not really it’s good practice to access the condition of the crush washer for damage which they usually aren’t.and turning it over to lightly tighten back up.Then check for leaks and determine if your good to go !

Do like 99% of everyone and use a jack and jack stands. If your vehicle is tall enough, sometimes lifting it isn't even needed. A lift would be nice, but unnecessary for an oil change.
