    Always........ Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug, before replacing the blades. The lawnmower could start up, while you are cranking on the bolts.

    Greg, When changing mower blades you should ALWAYS install NEW bolts as well. Never use the old bolts as they weaken with age and can snap causing the blade to go in all directions possibly causing serious injury.

    👍👍 The bend in the blades is also for when run over (accidentally) a rock wood, the blade will ‘fold’, as the bolts and assembly should allow them to do, give way rather than damage, then the folded bit stops it, and can be used to tap the blade back into alignment.

    The wavy washer should be fitted between the blade and the circular plate. This allows the blades to swing away on impact. There should also be a washer between the centre plate and the nut.

  • @Warpedsmac

    @Warpedsmac

    11 ай бұрын

    On Rover, MTD, Toro etc the wave washer does fit between the blade carrier and blade; MASPORTS are different, the wave washer is fitted under the head of the bolt NOT between the blade carrier and blade. In any case it must be remembered this man has fitted Victa Mulch blades to a Masport;the pressed section of the blade does not match the recess in the blade carrier.... Victa use a "belleville" convex washer under the nut; different again.

    My mower is a Ryobi 175cc 4-stroke with a Subaru engine. I saw on another KZread video that if you put a plastic bag under the fuel cap it will stop or limit fuel dripping out when you turn the mower on its side. That worked pretty well. HOWEVER, after I had taken the disk and blades off it took me about half an hour to get back to the mower. I had left it on its side. Quite a lot maybe 50 mls of sump oil had drained through the air filter onto the ground. Surprisingly the mower started ok and I ran it for about 5 minutes. Can I expect problems down the track after this DIY failure that I can add to my list?

    pretty good vid Greg. Couple of things though, I have found over the past 40 years it is always better ( at least on Rover mowers ) to always use 4 throwing blades for a cleaner cut and better throwing. Second, what breed of mower is that you have. Have not seen one with a blade disc with a solid blade mounted above it on the engine shaft before. Have a good one mate, it's beer o'clock.

    Installed these on a riding mower kzread.infoUgkxetgfkJxfdT_B2vGYP-uNTLaBbim9OKTD . They were sharp out of the box, although I've never liked blade edges that were coated...not quite as sharp as I personally want. Using my belt sander, I removed the coating from the cutting edges and refined the edge enough to shave with them. So far, after three runs, these blades are holding up as expected. Even after hitting a few fallen 1/2 inch or so branches, the edges are still sharp as heck. No edge dings, no warping, etc. As far as installing them, the cutouts were of the proper size and shape to fit my aging Craftsman mower. Very satisfied.

    G'day Greg.............. Might be a good idea to tell people to remove the sparkplug and move it away from the mower before doing this. If, like me,they can't work out how to do this without coming here, they may be the sort that doesn't turn the mower off. In this litigious world of ours they could sue you for the fingers they lose.

    It's always a good idea to pull the spark plug boot out before working on a lawn mower. I recently had to get a new ignition coil. Now the blade's bent. That's what happens when you hit bricks or roots. What kind of mower is this one? I'm not familar with this kind of blade. Shouldn't you use some kind of wedge to keep the blade in place? It always looks so easy when someone else is doing the work.
