Amazing - thank you so much. When my car didn't respond to my fob we called the AA who spent all morning and told us the digital control box had gone and we needed to transport the car to a BMW specialist. This specialist charged us £190 and said nothing was wrong as the key and everything else seemed to work. A week later, the problem arose again, preceded by the same error warnings. Your vid has saved me time, money and a lot of frustration. Sending every good wish your way.

Brilliant! Clear, concise and straight to the point. Excellent video. The comment regarding using the physical key in the other hole is also correct but I found this needed a remarkable amount of force and preferred the method in your video. Thanks for taking the trouble.

Thanks! I wasted 10 minutes trying to get the back on "the intuitive way" not the BMW engineered way. 🙂 Your video cleared that up. That's why one should watch to the end.

I watched this video first but after studying the key fob this is how I opened mine. If you pull the key out and push it in the rectangle hole on the opposite side the key came out, push firmly, this will unclip the lid and you can flick the battery lid off with your finger nail using very little force. This worked for me with exactly the same key fob, I figured this was how BMW designed it to be opened but I could be wrong.

If you remove the battery. Does that mean it’ll stop transmitting a signal? ( I.e preventing from thieves from doing relay attack and stealing the car )

Thanks. I was able to replace my battery. It works to unlock the door, but when I go to start it…it says the remote is not detected. I’ve held the remote to the steering column to start the car. It works, but when I shut off the engine it says remote not detected again. Do you know what I should do? Thanks

That would require using a razor blade to cut the glue seal around the whole perimeter and then prying it open. Not easy or intended to be done. You’d also have to glue it back shut
