How to Change a Rear Wiper Arm on a Minivan
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Replace the broken rear wiper on your minivan! You won't find more comprehensive, complete instructions anywhere on the Internet! Although replacing the rear wiper arm looks like a simple repair, it can be a challenge. (This is a 2003 Dodge Caravan, but these instructions should be good for Chrysler/Dodge minivans 2001-2007). This is one of the best fixit videos I'm seen on KZread.
Very helpful. Easy to follow. And it’s great to see different options shown in one video. Thank you!
THANK YOU FOR THE TUTORIAL. IM NOT VERY CAR SAVVY BUT CAN LISTEN TO INSTRUCTION WELL. YOU MADE IT VERY EASY.
Much appreciated! So happy you uploaded this. Thank you.
Thank you soo so much for this video!! It really helped me when I broke my wiper arm off after going through the carwash. I forgot that they tape the wiper to the window.....LOL!!

Hi Tenille, depending on the model year of your minivan the video does not show the need to remove the metal piece on the bolt that holds the arm so you can tighten the nut. I used a grinding wheel to remove it and some others used a hacksaw.

Thanks. Great vid. Helped alot. 🙌
Helpful, thank you!
How many people broke the rear glass trying to install the wiper arm?
Very useful, even though my Magnum has a slightly different arm.

Glad to hear it worked! This is from an old 2003 Caravan, so I'm sure many could be different now.
i would wire brush it first and then put some grease on it before install the new wiper arm on , this way next time something happens again it's will be easy to change it , one more thing using the small C clamp will work .
thanks for the video. very helpful
This works for any Chrysler Town & Country/Dodge Caravan/Plymouth Voyager, years 1996-2007
Only trouble I'm having is my 2005 grand caravan rear wiper only wipes half the window.. I hear some say just wd40 it? Unless I buy those extra thick wiper blades
i would have cleaned that shaft before refitting the nut , then it will come off easier next time ( also would use a new nut )

You need to purchase a wiper arm that will fit the make and model of your vehicle.
What size nut is used to hold the arm on?
@doityourselfstan

+Nick Mayhew Use the same nut you took off. If it's mangled, you can try taking it to a hardware store to match it or get one at a junkyard.
found the best way to change the blade on a Grand caravan was to break it off in pieces, then snap the new one in!
I have a 93 Plymouth Voyager and I see nothing on what to do with the back windshield wiper,am I missing something,?

You can remove the old wiper blade and put a new one on.
You sound just like Philip Baker Hall.

The 1999 minivan is a different body style than the 2003, so I'm not sure the rear wiper mechanism is the same.
do u thank it's the same way for a 91 ford explorer

Ok thanks
I have been able to remove the nut but actual wiper arm is holding in place REALLY tight also i have tried couple methods like you showed in video but it's seized on the motor shaft so i have no idea how i should remove it

That's the rub. The torch was what finally worked for me, and it took a little doing. But you have to be very careful not to damage anything with the flame. If you can't remove it, then it's off to the shop.

Wiper puller or battery terminal puller.
People, by now you should know that the car manufacturing industry and their dealers are the BIGGEST rip-off when it come to buying replacement parts. I recently purchased a replacement wiper arm for the rear window of my 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan. Unfortunately only the dealer carrier these replacement parts and after Chrysler realized that the original product made of plastic would break too easy the new part is made of metal. However, the cost is unbelievably over priced. The arm was $70.00 the blade was $30.00 and believer it or not a plastic cap (cost about 2 cents) that clips on the arm to protect the nut that hold the arm in place cost, ready for this $22.00. What a joke!!!! I told them to keep the silly little cap and went to BOLTSPlus in Ontario, Canada and purchased a stainless steel (wont rust) M8 Acorn Nut for about $1.00. Adding to this insult by Chrysler, the new part did not fit properly as you had to remove with a grinding wheel a small metal piece on the bolt to fit the arm. Guess Chrysler forgot this part when the replacement arm was designed.

JUST PAID $70 FOR THE SAME THING FOR MY 2008 CARAVAN.....HOPE IT FITS. I DO THINK ITS FUNNY THAT THEY MADE IT METAL INSTEAD OF PLASTIC....LUCKILY I FOUND A SITE THAT HAD THE ASSEMBLY NUTS AND CAP FOR $70 ALL MOPAR BTW. I FOUND THE BLADE AT ADVANCE AUTO FOR $14.

Did you try a junkyard for a good used one?
@doityourselfstan

Steve C I actually did try a junkyard first. They had no rear wiper arms that fit my minivan. But if you do find a wiper arm at a junkyard, the problem then becomes going through all these steps to remove it. And for safety reasons, a junkyard might not allow you to bring a propane torch onto their property. Lastly, though the wiper arm might be good, the wiper blade itself may be worn and need to be replaced. I suggest buying a replacement wiper arm.
