How to change a computer PSU fan
Ғылым және технология
A quick how-to-guide to change your computer's power supply fan if it has died, having problems or simply because its noisy.
The power supply I used is a OCZ StealthxStream 600watt.

Thanx, I changed my fan as you instructed and it went very well. People have told me off for years not to fiddle with the PSU, but it isn't hazardous when being careful.
You're welcome, I'm glad this helped you out. :)
Thats right it can hold current for some time but if you be carefull and don't make direct contact with the electricals you should be safe. I switched my PC on after unplugging the power cable to use up the power stored in the PSU, opened it about 10 mins after removing it from my PC. If you are willing to wait a few days to be super safe you can do that if you like.
The motherboard fan contollers optimize fan speed for motherboard and cpu cooling. If you use them for your psu fan then your psu may not receive the required fan speed it needs which could result in it overheating and has the potential risk of exploding caps. You should really only use the original psu fan controller, which requires cutting and soldering the wires together (not very difficult and a lot safer once completed).

some old psu use a fixed speed and use the sensor just to shut down everything. in this case it is better to hook the fan on a external controller and test your temps. i got a old seasonic from 09 with a 120mm fan that was like that.
also how long should i leave my power supply off and what fans do you recommend
nice
I've been told that a psu can hold it's electric current for a long time. Would you advise to pull out the psu, and wait for some days for disassembly to reduce the risk of shocks?
Why would you control from your fan controller? Sure, you can set the speed to make it quieter etc but the PSU has temp sensors to adjust the fan as needed.
which fan did u use on it?
my fam hits the metals around it what do i do?
I do live in London yes. :)

You sound like you're from LANDAN.
ummm. thats just kinda stupid. if you think it still carries current you can discharge it.
