    I own a Sentra 2014, followed the tutorial and everything came out great. No leaks or other issues, and I did not used a torque wrench. Taking the 'dipstick' off did not take long at all. The car had 83 thousand miles. The oil was extremely black, since it hadn't been changed. The filter was also very black; it certainly needed to be replaced many miles ago. I did buy the products at the dealership. The metal pan did not have much in the way of metal particles, so I will not change that next time. If I had known better, I 'd have changed the oil at least at 30 thousand. I will now change it more frequently. I think that at least changing the filter will not affect anything, if you have waited too long. It's time consuming but easy.

    There is one thing you missed and it's called for in the service manual. There's transmission debris that sits inside the transmission cooler block(the one in front of the transmission by the radiator). Nissan Sells a flush spray to remove this debris from in there. This is also advised when performing this service you're doing since removing the fluid makes it easier while the transmission cooler sits somewhat empty. The black hoses have to be removed and the spray goes through the bent pipes and putting a clear hose on one end to route the debris onto a pan. Cheers

    IF ANYONE HAS ISSUES WITH THEIR FLUID CAP -- mine was being very stubborn, but used a ziptie to create a loop that laces between the metal and plastic and got better leverage with that. Came out with a good pull.

    Thank you so much for the great video! I just got my parents old 2013 Sentra with 60K miles, and I have been so scared of the CVT failing (It is a huge problem with these cars) So It is a big relief to see your Sentra with 160K miles still running with good CVT Fluid Maintenance. You relieved so much of my stress!

    They last fine if you change the fluid often (if you are able to do it yourself it's much cheaper, so I do it more often) I do my gf car every 30k which is about 1.5 years of driving for her. S far she's at 180k km and no issues, still works fine. Bought car at 55k, changed fluid at 60k, 90k, 120k, 150k and just recently at 180k. If I can avoid problems with the transmission, which is the biggest problem with these, the rest is no big deal, it's just been regular maintenance and wear items. Oil changes, brakes and tires.

    I had that issue w a used one. I found out the critical upkeep to keep the cvt going is fluid flushes. It seems like most of the ones that fail do so because people had filthy fluid and didn’t change it due to the difficulty compared with most other cars. After watching this video it looks like it isn’t too bad after all, a little more work than some cars but not bad.

    There is oil trapped in the transmission. You put 4.5 quarts in and after running 20 minutes and shifting through the gears, leave motor running and pull drain plug. The excess oil will drain out. It won’t be 1/2 a quart.

  • @charleshines8523
    @charleshines8523 Жыл бұрын

    I did a drain and fill on my 2017 Rogue and it is already a lot smoother. I did that at 42,000 miles. When I put it into drive or reverse it doesn't whine so much now. I may do one more tomorrow along with that hidden filter. I bought a case of Aisin NS3 so I may as well put it to use. Some people say that it may be the OE fluid (or one of them). It is a deep blue color and isn't NS3 green? I am not 100% sure but other people seem to be having good luck with non OEM fluids anyhow. It is not like that Volkswagen I had that seemed to not like any other fluid than the dealer's. It is already a lot smoother on the new fluid. I could not get my Bluetooth OBD2 adapter to show the temperature on the Torque app so I just got a $30 infrared thermometer (the kind with the laser built in for aiming). I am glad I did it too. I took it for a ride once I checked the fluid level. On mine there is a 14 MM bolt on the transmission that you take out with it running in a certain temperature range and the excess fluid will come out. I know doing this with it running may scare some people but what should scare them more is underfilling it by not running it. Just run it at idle, no need to have the wheels dangerously turning or any of that!!

    Yes 100% always ONLY use the Nissan fluid for their CVT transmissions. I change the fluid on my gfs 2013 Sentra every 25k km. I replace the paper filter every time as well. The metal filter inside the pan I did at 100,000km and will do it every 50k km from now on (or every other fluid change). It is probably overkill, but since I do it myself and the parts are relatively cheap (compared to replacing an entire CVT) it doesn't bother me. We are saving for a house and want to have a huge down payment (like half or more) so we need our 2 cars which ate both paid for to last as long as possible with no major problems. My car is a 5 speed 2013 Ford Focus hatchback (382,000 km, runs like a top) and hers is a 2013 Nissan Sentra SL with 143,000km. I expect at least another 3-5 years of relatively teouble free ownership on both cars.

    Cuál fue el motivo por el que realizaste el cambio del aceite? Tengo un problema con mi caja que a veces se siente como si se patinaran los cambios de velocidad. Mi auto tiene 170,000 km y no le he realizado el cambio de aceite de la caja. Y quisiera saber si esa puede ser la causa de ese problema que tengo

    My partner's car got a CVT fluid change done at 60k miles and is now at 105,000. Does anyone know if there will be a negative effect if I install a new transmission oil filter, new gasket, new oil pan bolts, fluid, and paper filter? I really want to take off the transmission oil pan and clean it along with the magnets and change the filter in there to be safe. I want to rescue her neglected 2014 sentra lol

    that is also a benefit of the fluid changes. If you do them early and often the eco mode really gets a good average.

    My 2013 Sentra SL is at 69,000 mi. It just started jerking when accelerating and rpms go up and down quickly. Would a cvt fluid change make it worse?

  • @RadRoger

    @RadRoger

    Changing the fluid will either fix the problem or make no difference (if it's a mechanical issue rather than bad fluid), so I would change it to see. I had a Dodge Caliber with a Jatco CVT and it started giving me those symptoms around 30,000 miles since the last fluid change. CVT fluid loses its ability to do its job after it gets so old. Change the filters and clean the pan if you do. I just did the full job on my mom's 2018 Nissan Sentra at 100,000 miles because it had never been changed. Changing the fluid hurt nothing and it actually made the transmission slightly quieter. I used a meat thermometer from Walmart with a wired probe that I slid all the way down the fill tube to the bottom of the pan to read the fluid temperature. I had to bend the probe into a curve to match the fill tube so it would fit. You want to drain the excess fluid at 104 degrees Fahrenheit instead of going by how many minutes the engine has been running like this video suggests, because it could be inaccurate based on the ambient temperature outside.

    U can't check the level thst the Point of the overfill tube. If u think it's low add some while running like half quart with drain plug out not the overfill and you'll see it run out soon if not coming out add more till it runs of in a stream and its good when it starts to trickle or run under the bottom of the pan or not a steady stream

    Wait a minute. Wouldn’t all the fluid come out if you open the 19mm? Wouldn’t you open the 5mm Allen key overflow to let it level itself out?

  • @jeffreylboardsr2577

    @jeffreylboardsr2577

    Жыл бұрын

    No need to take the pan off unless you are changing the metal filter. Otherwise - remove the 19mm bolt and open the 5mm overflow and all the fluid will drain out without having to remove the pan. Replacing the 19mm bolt and closing overflow, then add new fluid. Start engine, open the overflow let excess drain as engine is running. When flow ceases...close the overflow and tighten the 19mm bolt.

    I have a 2018 nissan sentra. I was told today by the dealership service department my car doesn't have a transmission filter. They also told me it was going to cost me $275.00 to have the transmission fluid changed. My back yard mechanic friend said only dealerships can do them on this year of nissan. Is this true? I would like to save a bit of money if I can right now because I might not have a job soon. Thank you in advance for any information regarding this.

    I took the front part loose and worked between the shield and fender. I took all the fasteners out for the front part and one fender bolt about 11 o’clock position of wheel well. Not difficult working on the little filter behind it.
