How to Center the rear end after Lowering Trans Am WS6 Camaro SS

How to Center the rear end after Lowering Trans Am WS6 Camaro SS
After lowering my WS6 the rear of the car is no longer centered. Installing an adjustable panhard rod gives you the ability the put this back to the correct location. I am now running 17x11 wheels in the back with 315 tires. This helps keep these from rubbing. I have used several different vendors in the past but like BMR and UMI the best. I also like the poly / rod end due to less bind. Sometimes poly/poly binds and rod/rod is super noisy. This is the best of both worlds!! This process is the same from 82-02 Fbodys. This also is the same as a panhard bar install for firebird, trans am, firehawk, formula, camaro, ss, z28,

That method will center it to the body of the car but not to the suspension. Best DIY way is to buy a roll of the thick brown postal paper and tape that down to the concrete below the rear half of the car. Drop some plumb bobs below the rear axle to create/draw the axle on the paper. Drop a plumb Bob to mark the position of the axle and body side mounting points of the Lower control arm and connect those points to make a line representing the lower control arm. Use a carpenters square to verify the lines you dropped of the rear axles and LCA are perpendicular to the body mount of the LCA. If they are not then just measure over how far the axle needs to move laterally, move it and recheck.

Mark Burton I am in complete agreement. I should retitle the video. The main reason I did this was to center the rear in the fenders for tire size. Thank you for explaining this so people can do this to truly center the rear end. 👍

I have had the front and rear springs re-set, not so much "lowered", but slightly different to original. I am also having wheel-hop on the left hand side, so there could be an in-balance here. Look at Firehawk Indy 500. I just put a new set on my 2000 TA last month. I have run them for years. 275/40/17 front 275/35/18 rear. Falken Azenis 660 is another good one available in 275/40/17. They make a 315/35/18 that is good for the rear too is. Be careful trying to go to 305 on the front. Tire rub becomes an issue. A friend tried it on his 99 TA and took them back off due to clearance issues.
