Thank you!
Chinese New Year is such a wonderful holiday and I’m so glad it’s becoming more well known in the US. We desperately need a mid winter celebration for the lingering cold days (yes there’s Valentine’s Day but that’s more for couples and less about togetherness). I love Chinese culture and I hope to respectfully integrate this into my family’s life. Not a bastardization like cinco de mayo, but a chance to learn and enjoy.

What about that fun but weird holiday, Groundhog Day? Gobbler’s Knob, Pennsylvania is quite the party! 😂

Actually, Cinco De Mayo is not a holiday for Mexicans, that day Mexico beat France. Rather - September 16th is the holiday celebrated, it is the actual Mexican Independence Day.
In Malaysia, the Hokkien community celebrate the 9th day. 拜天公. Sugarcane is tied to house gates. On some years, there is more firecracker action when midnight strikes on 年初九 than 大年初一.
Congratulations on your baby! The new journey will start soon! And of course - Happy Chinese New Year ❤️

Congratulations to you Carmen!!
Evening of 8th is Pai Thi Kong/Bai Tian Gong, believed to be the ‘survival day’ of Minnan Hokkiens. Many call it Hokkien new year. On 15th day, we call it tsap goh meh, Old families of Straits Chinese people celebrate valentines day, where the young nyonya (creole chinese women) allowed to be out in the crowd. tangerines with names written were thrown into the river or the shores for young lucky men to retrieve. The Peranakans also eat sweet soup called Pengat and sing Dondang Sayang and dance Ronggeng. On that same day, In Singkawang, Kalimantan, the Hakkas would hold procession of spirit mediums. Tainan, Taiwan would parade out deities in sedan chairs from morning til night.
Thank you for all the info.
Around this time of year, I always receive a hong bao from my grandmother

Excited for the year of the tiger 🐅 the lunar new year 🧧:) love from America ❤️❤️❤️
Please continue making videos ❤
My partner and in-laws are Chinese. Celebrations are becoming more muted year by year due to the distance of the family (we moved from US to Canada) and COVID. However, it's the only part of the year I don't have to do cleaning as my partner insists on doing it all. Yay.
Happy New Year!!
I would definitely not cut my hair during Chinese New Year and no hair salon would open anyway 😹

We Koreans celebrate Seollal with rice cake soup. We also perform Saebae ( honoring and bowing to parents and older relatives). We wear new clothes and play Yut nori.

Rice cake soup sounds delicious! Saebae and wearing new clothes sound similar to Chinese traditions. What's Yut nori?

I miss playing Yut nori! It was fun playing it with all my family members back when I was a child. Good old memories..
*Congratulations on the baby!! 🎉* I didn’t really follow traditions whenever Chinese New Year came around (partially because my family isn’t very knowledgeable on the them and I wasn’t too interested when I was younger) but even so, my family wanted to do something for us (my cousin and I) and it’s one of the few things that still connects me back to my roots so learning all these, I might start to research more about them and potentially partake in them if I can (The most on Chinese New Year I’ve done was order Chinese take out, and receive red envelopes 🧧 I used to attend dragon dances but haven’t been to one since the pandemic started, I also had a Qipao/Cheongsam I’d wear but it doesn’t fit me anymore)
Happy year of the Tiger🐯Gung Hey Faat Choi Sun Nin Fai Lok🧧🐯🎊🎉
Always so informative Carmen! Thank u! And congrats on the baby!... Is it a boy or girl?
I love chinese new year
Oh. That makes sense for garbage day. I was curious but never asked my parents. I always waited until my township’s next garbage day. Lol Congrats!! My wife is also going to have a Tiger baby this year!!
Congrat Carmen!
I'm surprised you didnt mention having oranges & red envelope in your house & when you are visiting relatives
新年快乐
Congratulations
H’ray! Welcome Tiger Cub!
Congrats on your 老虎仔🐯!
waiting for your comback already!
!!!Happy Chinese New Year!!! 哇!感谢介绍中国年文化!恭喜您能拥有一个虎宝宝!
congratulations on the baby and sun yin fai lok. I know I didnt pronounce that right. but I can say it better then pronounce it. anyways. when I was with former gf at the time. cny eve we would pour tea for the elders and eat sweet candy and that would be considered good luck for the year. the days after cny would just be dull. I know with alot of covid restrictions things are gonna suck this year. but I'll keep the spirit alive because this year is year of the tiger fierce adventurous and brave.
CONGRATS ON YOUR WITTLE BEAN!!!!!
come backkk. Miss this channel
Nice video! I love the Lunar New Year and the traditions. Appreciate this info and here's to a beautiful transition in for the newest little Tiger!
Very informative. Would love to see something about how Christians could honor this holiday. My understanding is it's going to be very divisive for Chinese Christians.
A baby for th new year !!! So happy for yuu!!!
Honestly, since cleaning day is on a Sunday, and looking at the state of my bedroom that might just be the fire under my ass I need to actually do something about it.
Which date for the offering sacrifices to ancestors? on 31st December or on January 1st? Thank you!
My dad hired a cleaner several days before chinese new year. Also he paid someone to mow the lawn. He said he wanted to have it clean for the new year. The night before new year we ate good meal at home. Covid made us unable to celebrate with cousins, aunties, uncles. Must stay at home. Government's order. At least good aunties still gave me angpao (the red envelope )!
