Great video and great advice! I owe my striper success to you I watch all your videos! I primarily fish lake Arthur and have just started exploring shenango lake it’s crazy to see the difference in feeding and ways to catch them varying by what lake you are fishing!

Definitely and interesting subject. I have had people comment that the stripers act differently depending on what hatchery they came from. For example, my experience here tells me bright lights at night turn these fish off and they will move away from the light. Others have suggested that there are hatcheries where they are fed under lights at night and therefore are attracted to lights in the lakes they are stocked in.

Thank you for the excellent information. For May and June, you made it clear that nighttime fishing is preferred. During the spring and fall are you mainly day fishing, and if that is the case is it morning, midday, evening? You should have a live seminar sometime where people can ask questions...

I’m a avid fisherman and live about 20 minutes from Wally World, and have yet to try for them “wipers”. You have saved me a lot of guess work. Thanks again.

Lake Norman has stripers but I’ve never targeted them. I may give it a try this fall. Thanks Den.

@@fishden365 yes , The Cowanesque Dam Lake in Tioga county . Pure bred Stipers , not Hybrids . Hammond lake , near Cowaneque , has Hybrids .

Except for the Lucky Craft the prop baits I chose were old school. There are tons on the market though and they all have their time and place.

This is an interesting question which for me would be first answered by what is available not too far from where I live. For me here in Eastern PA opportunities abound for Largemouth and Smallmouth bass, trout, stiper, walleye, Musky and for many panfish like bluegill, perch, crappie and rock bass. The next question is what type of fishing rod and reel do you own? Spinning, baitcasting, spincast? light medium or heavy?

Unfortunately, it is no longer in production. Ebay, Etsy and old tackle shops are your best bet.

At Blue Marsh Lake are you walking the spook back and forth like you would bass fishing that night for stripers in late May

Yes, and every night could be different. Some nights they seem to want the walk the dog style baits and retrieves, others they may want a wake bait like a Redfin. Still other nights they may prefer a popper style bait. Hope this helps. The fish will tell you what they want.

Another excellent question and for me it varies. If I am fishing from shore I go heavier because they can be harder to land than from a boat. The rest depends on what I am throwing. Topwater calls for medium power topwater rods. I use medium heavy to heavy bait cast gear for swim jigs. I use the same topwater rods for blades, spoons and jerkbaits and will sometimes throw in a medium light to medium spinning rod for smaller swim jigs. I like spiderwire stealth braid in 20 lb test with a 17 pound test mono leader for topwater and 15 - 20 pound test fluorocarbon for swimjigs. I use lighter line on spinning gear when throwing the small stuff.

When you were talking about the jumps, is that a night time only type thing or does this happen during the daylight hours also? I have never targeted Stripers but you have me wanting to give it a try. Thanks

Ah, very good question and I should have explained that is not a night time deal although I am sure it happens at night as well. As soon as June ends I pursue these fish during daylight hours.

The alewives we're popping all over the place last night on the surface. Is that spawning behavior or were they feeding? I remember back when we used to shore fish at night with a lantern and the the bugs would just be clouding us. It seemed like the alewives we're feeding on them and later the stripers would come in and blow up on them. I always assumed they were feeding on the bugs, but I'm only a alewives/striper novice so I really don't know...

I am not sure as sometimes the alewife will eat hatches. The spawning behavior is unique. The do a half to full circle with each other on top of the water.
