    Hi, great video! But, I'm not very clear about the rig. You've got 2 lbs on the bottom, then lures of various types (spoons, crank baits, etc) tied to the weight? don't the spoons sink to the bottom or the current keeps em active? It would be so great if you could please elaborate more on the details regarding the rig. Thanks!

  • @thefisherbrad

    @thefisherbrad

    2 жыл бұрын

    So the spoons I showed in the video are light weight. Since they are light weight they don’t need much current to keep them moving. For the rig I have my mainline wrapped around a bead 5 feet from the bottom of the line. Then I tie a three way barrel swivel. I put on about a foot and a half line lengeth for the sinker off the bottom. So then I run a lure on the three way coming off. Once casted, I drop my second lure on the Line with a quick snap attached to the weight. The weight will carry your secind lure down to the bead. This will then give you a lure at a depth of 1.5 feet off bottom and a lure at 6.5 feet off bottom. Hope this helps

    Your using the classic fishermen's knot, yes? Its completely true that its basically the only knot you'll need when fishing. You had mentioned the need to leave a bit of little line tag on there for when the powerful fish pulls. The only thing different about that knot you may want to consider is a second pass through the eye of your leader or swivel. So it's twice through the eye then twirled around the main line 7 or 10 times or whatever. Then you go through the two holes made by the two passes through the eye. At this point you'll notice another whole at the opposite side of the knot from the eye. take the end of the line and go up and pass it through that hole and pull it tight, pulling a bit on the tag as you do. You could clip the whole tag off if you want at this point because the line isn't going any place guaranteed.

    I've been having a real hard time finding a rod. I went up to Andersens in PH and they have nothing in stock, do you know of any other places that carry a pole for the St. Clair? What suggestion would you have for a rod? rod line lbs rating? What gear ratio would you suggest for the bait caster? I found an Ugly Stick Tiger on line with a 30-60 lb rating but all of them were 7 ft "medium-heavy or lighter action, and I don't think that's going to work for the St. Clair. I was there last night with my great gramps rod and reel and the reel is just too old to handle that kind of current, and the pole is failing. It was all good till the last 10 ft of water where I had to pull up, then drop the rod back down fast, and reel fast, to bring it up. Fishing the St. Clair on land is a VERY different animal from fishing from a boat. Also, you lose your rig on land it's going to cost you 15$+ and 30 min of time. Last night I lost a 1 1/2 lb sinker when my line caught on an eyelet and snapped my swivel in half. It was not a tiny swivel either, like mid-range. It would be fantastic if you could cover an in-depth video on gear and rig for the St. Clair.
