    Is it just me or is a weighted senko not a light bait?

  • @bassresource

    @bassresource

    Жыл бұрын

    The lure in the video is not weighted. That said, many bass anglers throw unweighted Senkos on spinning gear because it's difficult for them to throw with baitcasting outfits. Hence the reason for this video. But even though a Senko is used in the video instead of a fly, the principles taught in the video remain the same and are applicable for lures lighter than a Senko. So pay less attention to the actual lure used, and focus on the techniques taught instead. Thanks!

    Glenn, Your videos are always instructive, clear, and helpful. I'm a 64-year-old BassHole who just started using a baitcaster in the past 2 weeks. Good to know I can throw a lighter lure with one, and how to do so! Keep the tips coming! (My favorites are still how to avoid getting hooked with hard baits -- hold the bait first -- and how to get unsnagged using a bow and arrow technique). Roger, The Smiling BassHole

    Glenn. A big THANK YOU for this video. I kmow that this video is old given thst we are now in 2022. I was sooo frustrated with a baitcaster Lews Smash MedHeavy Fast-action 6’6” combo rod. Birdnesting was a common issue and almost gave up on my baitcaster ( was going to sell it). Taking advice of lowering the brake and loosen spool tension, My casts are now like 75 to 125 feet with a plastic swimbait. My eyes popped out in excitement. No more need to muscle my casts. A flick of the wrist and the “whip” effect of the rod did the trick. THANK YOU THANK THANK YOU

    Most reels are capable of casting a weightless senko style bait. Biggest thing is having a rod that loads with whatever weight lure you are using. The reel and line come into play after that. With the sub 3/16oz stuff, a BFS reel is ideal.

    That was good info. I try to throw it hard and I get backlash. Will practice this. Thanks!

    Thanks Glenn, this is a good reminder to me to leave a little more line out when I'm throwing something lighter. I've been trying to loosen up my cast controls and rely more on my thumb, but the biggest challenge with that is when I switch baits from something heavy to something light; I tend to backlash right after that. This video will help me alleviate that problem a bit.

    Another great informative video. It's almost like hitting a golf ball. When I try to kill the ball (load up and swing hard), it almost never goes straight and long. But when I hold back some, my drives are more consistently straight and surprisingly farther than you'd think. Just don't forget to readjust that tension knob if you change lures 😉.

    Usually I go with a spinning rig for light lures, but I'll give this a try with a baitcaster. Thanks.
