Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Love him or hate him, Gollum is one of the most important characters in The Lord of The Rings. In this video, I take you through the entire process of me carving Gollum in cottonwood bark.

Not my usual preferred subject matter, but very well done and very inspirational.
I like that you talk about the tools you use and what you're looking to accomplish. I appreciate you moving around the carving to take a break from a specific detail, that fact gives me a new perspective on my cravings. Thank you for sharing your craft!

Thank you. I wasn't sure if I was being too repetitive, but taking those little breaks has changed my carving process for the better!
You nailed the proportions! What a great project, well done sir.

Can't remember, but probably around 15-20 hrs
Vc poderia entalhar isso em uma árvore viva na natureza.e após alguns anos voltar e ver como ele está
Você tem muito trabalho precisa de ajudante
Why is it called Cottonwood bark as opposed to Cottonwood?
@tomwilkinson2898
Жыл бұрын
Hi Scott. It is actually the bark of the cottonwood tree, a type of poplar. I actually don't know how the actual wood carves, but the bark is typically thick and has grain, albeit a bit unpredictable. It's fairly soft and easy to carve which is why it's popular among carvers.

@@tomwilkinson2898 Thank you. I've seen Cottonwood trees - messy buggers. Horrible wood for burning, soft with no ability to produce real heat. Real punky.
