    My mother used to can blueberries (1960s) and we would eat most of them by pouring them over vanilla ice cream. It was great!

    Followed your method a couple days ago, and they turned out good. I did up 20 jars (10lbs.). They are really good on ice cream. I didn’t use any sugar at all-and they were really good. If I have just some in a bowl, I add a little maple syrup. Also, probably would be good in a smoothie. I used Distilled water. Doing it again-I’d probably push them down in the jar more and add more berries before adding water, so I could get more in each jar. Happy to have those on my shelf for winter. Thank you for your method and showing how it’s done.

    Another great video! Thanks for sharing! I know you’re super busy but maybe when things slow down in the fall you could do a tutorial video on canning the chicken broth. I know I would love to see how you do it. 😊.

    I feel like a whole section in the beginning is missing. So you heat up the blueberries in either water or syrup? For how long? How much water or syrup?

    I'd like to take the blueberries I have out of my freezer and can them in pint jars. How long do I need to have them in the canner if they are frozen? I can add the boiling water to the hot jars before adding the blueberries but I think I still need to time them a little longer if they are frozen.

    So you boil them and place them in glass jars, then boil the jars, right? How long can these stay preserved? Is there a way to keep them from popping?

    I recommend that anyone who wants to can purchase a canning book so they know exactly how to process any food. Once processed properly, the lids will be suctioned down to the jar. It will only release or 'pop' if you pop it OR if something is wrong. ;) Thanks for watching!

    You probably already have books on canning and stuff but the stuff that you're getting off the web do you have that stuff back up at home on books . I appreciate what you are doing but more important to take care of your family . The KZread that you do put out are very high quality and that you are right on and I really appreciate it and thank you for inspiring me to work more. God bless you

    I have a burkey I've been using for over a year. I love it. It got to where the filters didn't let water through as quickly and my son reminded me that about every 6 months it helps to scrub the filters with a clean nylon brush and rinse well. This keeps them working for years. Hope this is helpful.

    well what do I do now? First timer here, I think I filled and processed 6 jars that I forgot to sterilize. Then when I took one batch of blueberry's out of the water bath they were leaking juice out of them. My daughter and I picked 20LBS today and she went home and I got stuck doing all the work. I am old and so tired. Is there anything I should do?

  • @HearthandDome

    Not sure why the juice is leaking unless you over packed..? Did they seal? If so, I wouldn't worry about. Jars leak all the time, if they seal, no problem. Hope this helps! Sorry you got stuck with all the work!!

    You CAN raw pack blueberries but you won't have near as many in the jar and the color won't hold up as long. Instructions for both methods can be found on the USDA website for food preservation. nchfp.uga.edu/

    I canned the blueberries this way but when I opened the jar, the beriies were soft and felt cooked :/ Is there a way to can them and that they remain the look and taste of fresh berries?

  • @HearthandDome

    @HearthandDome

    Great question! Canned berries will never be like fresh. The hot canner cooks them. We use our canned blueberries in baked goods, swirled in yogurt, and in desserts like cobbler. They aren't really good for snacking like fresh but you can use them in almost any other application. We actually prefer canned blueberries in muffins as opposed to fresh.. You can see that comparison in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p4ampcaNqdSXg8o.html Hope that helps! Thanks for stopping by! :)
