Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video, I show you the best practices for using your auxiliary heater in the California Ocean and California Coast. This isn't as simple as it first seems, and it's worth knowing all of these tips and tricks before giving it a go yourself.
If you have any questions, drop them in the comments box and I'll try and reply to all of them! Great questions like Stu's sometimes end up as future videos!
Thanks for watching! California Chris.

Fantastic! Many thanks Chris. We hadn’t worked out the heater to date so this video comes at just the right time. Explains everything. We have had ours on ventilate, so have changed it.

Many thanks for the video Chris, I was just heading down to the dealer to ask them why my heater wouldn't work :-).
Thanks for video! What is ventilation and no change modes for? Can I turn on/use auxiliary heating without The key inside? If I have hey inside the front light is on which I don't like :)
You give really clear and useful explanations. Thanks.

Glad it was helpful!
I ordered the two auxiliary heating systems on my T6.1 California : air and water. When I switch on the auxiliary ventilation mode, the fresh air does not come out of the dashboard vents, but softly out of the B-pillar vents. This is handy to have fresh air when the doors and windows are closed, but no heating is needed. On the other hand, the (hot or cool) air does come out of the dashboard vents when I switch on the auxiliary water heating system instead of the air heating system. The water system really gets hot if you so wish.
hi Chris - thanks for this great overview - do you have any idea why you are allowed to switch between Eberspacher and Webasto in the hidden setting menu on Cali T6? What is the purpose of doing a switch, when you turn the heating on, the heating comes out the same way - I can see no difference. I would expect that after change the heat would come of your usual airflow vents all over the car, not the right hand side B-Pillar... Any help appreciated. Best, Woj.
Do california 6.1 have any cooling/vent system that can keep the campers comfortable during sleep on a warm summer night?
Thank you 👍😁👋

Hi Chris just wondering if you press heat immediately button how long does the heater run for ? Or how long should it run for
Hi, really appreciate all the videos. I had a strange experience with a new ocean. I’ve put it down to me using it incorrectly. Basically, we put the heating on overnight and it appeared to be working. In the morning it wasn’t on. In the morning, I couldn’t get it working at all. The panel showed error messages and got stuck on loading. This was a bit worrying as the roof was up and I couldn’t get it down as I couldn’t access the controls. In the end it came out so I could, but still no heat. I drove home, tried again, it started to work. Not sure what happened.
Hi we have a 2015 California which has a different control to this but I guess it’s is vey similar. Although the aux heater does use power from the battery to drive fans, is this from the leisure battery or the vehicle battery? I using and EHU does that mean it’s won’t be sapping the battery with the aux heater on?
Is there any way to divert some of the warm air to the pop top bed? always a little chilly overnight there!
We ordered coast 6.1 and it only has rear aircon(on central unit) not auxiliary heater, does anyone know whats that for? I can only set natural and levels with intesity of blow and it says that car needs to be on to work?
Will you even need an aux heater on the T7 California Hybrid? Surely the HVAC system can be run purely from the hybrid battery until it's depleted?
I have a Coast 6.1 and forgot to order the Aux heater option - is it possible to get this fitted as an after-sale service option?
Why does the ignition need to be on to access operating mode and settings? What is the difference between the Heat continuously setting and Heat immediately setting? Thanks Angus
Someone mentioned that you can activate via a key fob, do you know about that Chris
Hi Chris I have a T6 2018 Cali and I’m concerned that the auxiliary heater is leaking fumes into the drive away awning. Was there any consideration of this by VW or is there a way around it or anything else you suggest ?

Hi Rich, I'm sure you've seen it, but I've answered this for you in my latest Q&A video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4Wux8VxeKu5YZc.html
Does the auxiliary heater work without the key in the ignition? Thanks 🙂
Great video; is the auxiliary heater option on the Beach Tour "9AH: Climatronic with second evaporator and second heating system" mean the auxiliary diesel heater?
@curtini

No that’s just climate control including the rear living space. I think the option is called Auxiliary heater. It’s the £2.3K one
Hi Chris, I ve got a brand new California Beach 6.1 and Ive tried aux heater in all its configurations. It just blows cold air, even in 10... Diesel tank is full, batteries are ok, orange led light indicates heater is on, but not hot air whatsoever. Have you actually checked it blows hot air when heater on? My local VW dealer says it won't start because its summer (im in Spain) due to the thermostat...I don't think it works with a thermostat. Do you guys have any clue? Many thanks

Same here, I don't manage to make the aux heater work. Although the orange led lights on it does not blow any air from the vents. I'm also in Spain, but it didn't work at freezing cold high in the mountains :(
Hi Chris, really good videos. Good to see someone decoding the VW options. Do you know if this heating system is the same as what is offered in the new 6.1 sport line kombi van?

Hey James, did you find out if it's same as I've got the sportline kombi on order but I can't find anything about the heating system on KZread other than this?

@@dans7693 Hi Dan, this is all I managed to find on the subject. I think it is the Aux heater option that comes on the sportline, the dealership I am using seemed to think so too. Thought this Cali Chris guy might know the answer, but perhaps only knows about the campers.

@@jamesroobottom9615 Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my question, I've added the £3216 option of Programmable parking heater (air) with radio remote control, auxiliary heater (coolant) and second battery. I'm assuming that would be the same system as on the California's maybe?

@@jamesroobottom9615 Hi James, have you taken delivery of your van yet? Have you any further knowledge from our previous discussion? Cheers.
A question about 'departure time on 2021 Ocean (confusing name - perhaps lost in translation). Surely it should be 'heating come on' time or more meaningful. According to the user manual and various 'youtube' research, If I set a 'departure time' of Monday 07:00am, then this is the time that the auxiliary heating should come on? My heater works really well, when heating immediately, it also kinda works when setting the timer - sorry, 'departure time'. The problem is, when setting the 'departure time', the heater actually comes on 30-40 mins earlier - so, 06:30am for my example above. Is this normal? Thanks in advance (blue & yellow symbols come on as expected) Tony

Hi Tony, the thinking behind the 'departure time' name is that it's the time you may want to depart the campsite. So when you set your departure time, you're setting the time you want the vehicle to be at the desired temperature (so the heating will come on earlier than your set time to start warming things up in advance). I've used this before when I know I will be getting out of bed at 730am. I set the departure time to 730am and know that the vehicle will be at the desired temperature when I get out of bed without having to get dressed in the California while it has only just started warming up. Hope that helps!
So how do I keep cool abroad ?
What does the auxiliary water heater do?
All your vids so appreciated, thank you. Any chance to do a vid for the 6.1 ocean on the internal lights please?
Same ""weak T6.1 heating experience" here in Denmark. I´ve previous owned a 2018 T6.0 Ocean and just upgraded to the T6.1. The T6.1 heater need to be cranked up to a minimum of 8 or 9 to have any effect whatsoever. The heat output from the 9 setting in the 6.1 delivers less heat than the 5-setting in the 6.0. Very disappointing in an otherwise PERFECT ADVENTURE MOBILE. Unfortunately VW offers NO solution to the issue, so I am seriously considering to install an extra (seperate) Sebasto-heater to be able to (hopefully) get back to the comfy-level I was used to in my T6.0 🔥🔥🔥

Thomas Mygind we have a T6.1 as well and no problems with the heating system. 3 or maximum 4 is more then enough. Usually 4 is already too hot for us. Used it in March and April, when nights were still cold.

The settings 1-9 make no difference to how hot the air coming from the heater is. It works on a thermostat inside the intake vent. The settings affect the van temperature at which the heating switches off, not the temperature of the heated air which is constant.

It is possible to run the heater all night, or the battery is not enough for that?
