Luteal phase is the number of days between your ovulation and next period, counting from the day after you ovulate (ovary release an egg), till you see your next period. However, luteal phase length can be 11 - 17 days before your next period. Thanks for all the explanation ma. But please ma does it mean you will have to wait till you see your next period before you know your cycle,fertile,and ovulating period for the month????? Because at first I use to calculate first day of last menses Of the old month to the first day of new menses to be my cycle and I calculate 14days from my day1 menses i.e(3days to 14days and 3days after 14days be my ovulation /fertile period does it mean have been calculating wrongly especially if you have irregular menses that last for 5days?

Irregular periods is normal for breastfeeding mothers. The cycle length can be shorter or longer when breastfeeding. So having a cycle length upto 38 and more days can happen. Mine is longer due to breastfeeding but I always know when I ovulate. Just know your body well to know the changes that can happen and how to track your cycle.

Now my question is how can a lady with seven days regular menstrual flow deduce are ovulating day most especially when are cycle revolve around 21-28 days because of some lack of specifications. What you will do is to count 6days from the first day of your last circle and also count 17days from the first day of circle to know your fertile window

My periods are super irregular. I can go anywhere from 18-77 days in between periods. I’ve never hit the 21-35 day range. Right now I’m on CD 41. I’ve had all the testing done from my gyno and nothing is wrong. So I’m at a loss what to do. My doctor doesn’t know why I’m so irregular when everything checks out. Any advice?

Have you had your thyroid hormone checked? That happened to me after my first kiddo and I kept thinking I was pregnant again and then I’d have a period out of the blue. Found out I was having hypothyroidism.

This only works if your irregular outside the 21-35 day typical cycle but remain relatively consistent. Like your period always occurs with a window like example you always have a period within 72 hour window like (Jan 32, feb 34, mar 31, Apr 35) but when you jump like (Jan 32, feb 21, mar 50, apr (no period) may 42) then see a doctor and use ovulation kits that test LH in urine.

Well done doctor Amarachi. I like your teaching. Is very clear and understandable.

Thanks for this video doc, unfortunately this calculation may not likely work for me. I also have a varying cycle length and I've taken note of it the whole of this year. My shortest this year is even 24 and longest 28. It's quite overwhelming to calculate but I know I get pains and cramps in my abdomen whenever I'm about to ovulate. I've used predicte severally and it's given me accurate result. So that's how I know it's time.

If you have your longest cycle length as 28, you can try using this method. The reason is that, if you wait till you feel the ovulation symptoms, this could mean that you are only aware when your fertility window is closing. Simply put, its better to have an idea when you would be ovulating so that you can either avoid sexual Intercourse that period or you can have as much as you want to that period depending on your goal. Because if you wait for the symptoms, you might have already ovulated, meaning you have 12 to 24 hours or less before the egg is reabsorbed
