Just look at the app. The tesla shows its position on the app, so instead of using the phones gps, to know your location, just add an offset to the Teslas coordinates. Google maps has an API, so you just pull the coordinates from the car and increase the lat lon the decimal digits by a fixed amount, and this will work from everywhere. Same thing was done to hacked Pokemon Go versions.

@@WhatTheHellMang Yes, but the car position is already shown on the phone app, so it could be used from anywhere. @Mal Wayne I'm really not an app programmer, But a good starting point would be to get the .apk install file for the android version of the app and then run it in an emulator. Then it could be sniffed out what kind of info the app needs to decide how far the car can go of from how far away. Possible, someone else is already hacking this, so just google around. I'm sure there already are several Tesla apps tweaked in different ways already.

Elon Musk has asked governments to make regulations and that the regulations should air on the side of caution. Ergo, the UN/EU is simply making laws that listen to Elon's concerns around AI. Surely this makes sense? It's not like the laws will never change, surely it's simply airing on the side of caution and ends up being a wise choice with all of our safety in mind...?

I have a real petrol head friend who i was telling 15yrs ago that cars in the near future will be electric and drive themselves (i'm no visionary as it was inevitable) and that they would no longer be a thing to enjoy driving manually. They would be fully autonomous, like a multi media centre that travels, tv, video games, internet etc. You can sit back as if you were in your own living room/salon whilst travelling to your destination. This is probably within the next 20yrs. Then when the oil runs out you will only be able to drive a combustible engine car with a club at a race track. He was a bit sad of the fact but i must admit, electric opens up a whole new exciting avenue. This video reminded me of our conversation as i'm seeing it start to happen.

If they increase the distance and speed a bit, it could be useful if for instance you go to a restaurant and it is pouring down, you can summon your car and not get (as) wet from the rain. But right now it is a gimmick otherwise called "tech demo" :-) The moment it almost ran into that other car (around 6:30 or so) was quite dodgy.

These vehicles are going to be much much much safer than human drivers soon (in fact they are, take Tesla AP stats and see) and those rules we are crying about are going to flip on their heads esp when level 5 is declared by Tesla. The new rules will be, no human is allowed to drive or at first, go above a certain speed, eg: 60km/hr. Watch iRobot and you'll understand where we are going. Eventually, auto car makers will be instructed to/will just actually remove the wheel altogether; it will be pointless to have the contraption in the cars.

20m is not a long distance espcially if the car has to turn around something. It look like the streering-radius (! is that he correct word?) is quite large. Let's say 10m. In that case it suffice to turn a third of a circle (not even a U-turn!) around a tree or whatever to already drive more than 20m...
