K/ Ocmp Shaking head... Chuckles runs a clickbait fueled marketing channel. He has amassed a following of people that do not know any better. If agriculture was his business, then he would be getting on the horn, but it isn't. All of this completely overlooks the Gingell's support reservation system they created. Perhaps a suggestion for the more experienced buyer but if buying as a collector, on top of all those mentioned here, I look to see if it’s complete, I.e. belt pulley, hydraulics, correct rims and other items, 6 V vs 12 V, etc. I bought an IH H last fall because it had all that stuff I just mentioned, but is missing a few cheaper items like choke rod. Another great video!

I'd love to see a video comparing the experience of using an older tractor (like a mid-50's Farmall 300 or Ferguson TO-30) vs a new Kubota for common chores like driveway maintenance (spreading gravel with a loader or using a box blade) brush hogging, etc.

Nice little tutorial. Unlike many of the smiling faces on KZread, you really know what you are talking about and not regurgitating someone else's script. I assume you really did write your book....and assuming that you might wish to consider writing buyer's guides for the common brands of older tractors. At $10 or so a piece they would be money in the bank even for experienced buyers. Most of the cars and all of the tractors I own were made well before you were born, so I appreciate the value in the knowledge of where the little gremlins are on the various models. As for newer versus older for reliability, give me just about any of the older ones over the computer run modern ones.....at least for small farm work. My Ford 601 starts and does what I want without any fuss, and has done so for the 27 years I've owned it. It could use some cosmetic work at this point (too many branches got in the way), but scraped paint doesn't affect its performance....it just isn't a parade tractor anymore.

I've always made proper and practical repairs to all of my tractors. In recent history I did a major rebuild and go through on a 3010 John Deere I purchased, everything short of the transmission and rearend. When it got to the hacked out wiring harness and original charging system I weighed the cost of a new harness and generator as opposed to creating an electrical system that made sense to my application. Keep in mind I used to be an auto mechanic and several years experienced with tractor repair. For a charging system I used an older Motorcraft alternator and an AC Delco regulator, they were sitting around doing nothing anyway. (they get along well together😆😎). I put a volt meter in the dash and ran the field circuit through the dummy light to excite the charging field, yes the factory shop mauals help tremendously. It's my personal belief that if you own a tractor at least purchase an I.T. manual for it so you have at least a clue as to what you're looking at when chasing down a problem. Also, I put a mechanical oil gage in the dash and retained the original temp gage. To me it's critical to monitor what an engine is doing instead of relying on idiot lights, especially on a freshly majored engine. This is a good solid, informative video young lady. In my experience other things to look for, missing oil pan bolts, does the tractor still keep half coasting when standing on the brakes while you're about bending the steering wheel? How much adjustment is left on the clutch pedal? How winey are the gears or grindy sounding are the transmission and rearend bearings when you load the tractor with the brakes in ALL of the gears? Don't get bashful about putting a tractor through its paces before you purchase it. My dad prchased 440 John Deere crawler once, the man he purchased it from told him "You never run these things over 1/2 throttle anyways." I got a chance to use it within a week of the purchase and my dad told me the same thing. RIGHT!........ I did an inspetion, seemed solid. All fluid levels looked up to full and clean. After 10 minutes of using it to push dirt, my mom was there to witness this, a clinking noise developed from the lower end of the engine. I smoothed out the terrain. Dad was at work, he got home to hear what happened. He immediately got on the phone with the seller, he showed up 2 days later when dad was at work but mom and I were at home. The seller was trying to come up with every story he could not to refund the purchase and white wash the scab repair he made to the engine just to flip a buck! Thanks to mom's business savvy and persistence he refunded the purchase and took the junker with him. That could easily have been a $3,800.00 burn! By the way, the purchase was made at a thrashing show, so just beware at those events on these type of purchases. 'Hey, I've an idea. Let's take it over to the dyno and hook her up. No? Well it guess it can sit!' No apologies for the long comment, I don't mind sharing the experiences.
