The easiest way by far to NOT get scammed, is to value the person you're buying from more than the bike. If the person seems 100% genuine (trust your instincts, it took millions of years to develop them), go for that bike. If the person seems slightly off even if you cant figure out why or what it is, dont buy that bike. You can absolutely sense when someone is trying to hide something, even if THEY think they're an oscar winning actor. They never are.

Othon Zamarripa I'll help you the best I can but at the end of the day this was a video about how to buy a motorcycle off Craigslist and not maintain one that you already own obviously upon buying a bike you don't know what was done when so I recommend just doing all those as soon as you buy the bike it wouldn't hurt anything or do it slowly as you can you know oil and coolant being the first to

best thing to do when you buy your 1st bike off CL is to do what i did and i went to my local motorcycle dealer/mechanic. went to the mechanic and said "hey im buying a bike off of CL and i need a pro to look at it if you could come after your shift I'll throw you some money" 99.9% they will say yes especially if you pay them good. i gave him $100 bucks and he did it...BEST ROUTE TO GO

I always thought about doing a thing where it's like "Hey man I love the bike, but I want to get it checked out. SSB near me does inspections for 60 bucks. Can we drive over there and I'll pay for the cost. If it's as good of shape as you say it is I'll take it today, if they come back and say it needs 300 in maintenance I'm taking that off the price" I've even thought about saying (only to the guys that say "my bike is perfect shape") "OK, Love it, if its in as good of shape as you say it is lets take it and you pay the 60 for the inspection, if it's perfect/near perfect I'll add that 60 back in so you aren't out any money and take it today" if they say yes and are confident in their bike, good on em.. if they are like "No way I'm not doing that" Ok... so then your bike really isn't in as good of shape as you say it is

Admittedly, I also bought my last car off craigslist without even sitting in the thing. Looked at it for 10 minutes in a parking lot. First time I drove it we were at the guys bank and I was dropping him off at the Lexus dealership after the transfer.. so so so stupid. But trusted my gut and the guy. His parents worked at the dealership so had all maintenece done there, looked it up. Only thing I've had to do was a new battery (Toyota TrueStars CCA's are crap here in Minnesota -30 week long winter bursts) and a headlight bulb.

For those who find this video informative, it is. He covers most things well. That said, I feel like two important tips were left out of the pre test-ride inspection. - Before - you go on that test ride, check the tires air pressure and look for weather checking, cupping, or other tire wear abnormalities. These are clues. Secondly, use your flashlight to get a good look at brake pads, (especially the front), the inside ones can be difficult to see. While you're looking there, check for signs of leaking fluid from the brake calipers and examine the rotors for heat checking/blueing, grooves, warpage. Give the front brake lever a pull to see if it feels firm. If things check out - Then - start it up and go for that test ride. That's what's gonna save your ass out there on the road. ;)

I had this exact bike and it was the biggest nightmare. I had to change the r/r and stator 4 times and the battery 3 times. I also had a problem with the carbs and it not having enough power. the bike lived at the mechanics. but the final problem was when I was riding and the front sprocket came off and was slingshotted in the motor case. This caused all my oil to shoot out and Im not sure how I didn't crash because my whole back tire was covered. The good news was Yamaha covered the cost because there was a recall on the sprocket nut. I would call your yamaha dealer and run your vin to see if it was fixed or not.

Only things I would add is pop the seats look for wiring add ons, sloppy connections, cut wires etc. rubber under fender sign of burn out not a deal killer but a sign of how well it was taken care of. Ask if they did maintenance themselves or took it to a shop. If they did it themselves ask what type of chain cleaner and lube they use if they can’t tell you they probably have not cleaned, lubed it. What type of oil, antifreeze they use. If they stub.e they a full of BS. If levers, bar ends or new may be a sign it was dropped. Check air filter if you are really planning on buying it, has it been changed or cleaned if K&N. And finally get a report (like car facts but for bikes), will show how many owners. Also based on gear they have will kind of tell how responsible they are, more responsible possibly took better care of it.

If you not a motorbike technician, its really hard for a user to choose a good bike unless you bring them along when buying.. Drop or crash well repaired also depend on the selling value.. Normally those user seriously wanna sell off the bike will already do fully paint, some changes for those wear & tears with full overhaul.. The most important was to test ride the machine with different speed to heard the internal engine.. In the end, if you are just a user you got try luck on used machine cause nothing major you can check if you don't push the bike to proper motorbike shop you know..

Also if youre buying a Yamaha, they have codes that you can look up and see if the eletrical is good. Im sure you can do it on other makers, but Ive owned yamahas all my life lol. Speaking of electrical make sure all the turn signals, headlights and tailights. Look for oem, good, wiring and not Mickey Mouse type shit wiring. Look at the brakepads as well.

look for aftermarket fairings, if the bike has them that means it was probably crashed.

Your chain looks too tight to me. Have a buddy sit on your bike and check it again.

Lol,it isn't. iT'S A 600 you shouldn't be torquing/high speed riding with a passenger on a 600. Not designed for passengers in mind. So it will tighten up the chain but don't be dumb about it.

I wish I could get fork seals changed for $200. More like $100 for seals and wipers and another $300-$400 for labor is what the stealership charges.

AKEK 07 i got lucky and have a machanic thats a great friend. I have a klr ive been slowly rebuilding with him and after countless hours of work and learning hes charged me less then 10-15 an hour. Get more hands on and have someone teach you as you go. Ive paid far more in parts then i did in labor. Damn oem prices... Bike will damn near be a complete rebuild by the time were done. Doo hickie, fork seals, trail tech speedo/cluster, repainting all plastics, balancer shaft, chain guides, all new gaskets and some O rings, sprockets/chain... At a local machinist getting valves checked and getting set up for a 685 kit...

You can cruise, stupid idea, but you can cruise on leaking seals for quite awhile. The degree of the leak may or mat not "puddle". Anyone with some sort of experience can tell the difference between oil and dirt/dust. Even when mixed together.

A reasonable seller should already take into account any flaws and mechanical issues when deciding on a selling price. However many sellers have a ridiculously high asking price and are hoping to find some idiot that might give them what they are asking for it.
