I know someone who bought a second hand car cash after 3 years because he maxed his tax-free savings every month and grew nicely. The car he bought has a record for being reliable for years and because it was cash he could negotiate a better price at the dealership (interest free). This made more sense because while a new car depreciates faster in its first 2 years, it's silly paying such high installments for 60 or 72 months while the value of the car drops whereas that money can be used on your investments or side hustle.

My 2cents : Look for your own insurance. Dealership insurance can be more important. I agree with Nokuhle;s statement about affordability. A tip I can give in terms of paying off your car sooner is increasing your car payment when you get an increase at work. One last thing, AVOID balloon payments. Interest on a car is calculated on the entire capital owed (meaning the bank charges you interest for the balloon amount 5 years)Think about it in this manner: imagine deciding to exercise and you losing weight monthly but your tummy(balloon payment) stays the same until the end of your contract.

It is advisable that you don't inquire for credit from more than 3 credit providers or financial institutions because it messes up your credit score(speaking from experience). It is also advisable that when you shop around for insurance, do not inquire for quotes from more than 3 insurers because the more quotes you get, the higher the chances of paying more premium as per actuaries premium calculation formulas(work for an insurance company).
