How to: Building a Ported Subwoofer Box - CarAudioFabrication

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Went through some old footage and found I had recorded video of building a custom slot ported subwoofer box enclosure, but I had never edited it! In this video I build a subwoofer enclosure and show you step by step how it is done. The subwoofer box is built using one of my 1NSW style box designs and features some custom template work on the front using a router just to give it an extra special touch.

The material thickness for the box looks like it is more than capable to handle the application it's used for. You can get away with using a thinner board and it will still handle the application.

I liked the use of corner bracing on your box though. This bracing can be used throughout the box design to minimize the amount of material you use, saving you money, and you walking away from a job with a higher profit margin

I don't know why you are excluding the option of putting it under the seat... to make your job easier remove completely the seat while working (measure everything with the seat on and remember if your seat can go up and down to mesure the space while the seat is down or you will end up like me not being able to lower the seat for me not a big deal but when i lend my car to other people is a problem). Also if you are not going for a extremely powerful bass a sealed box will be more forgiving and still give you a nice sound. If you want a ported box it will be harder to design one that fits under a seat and I understand why you don't want to go with that

  • @sethh8892

All you have to do is remove the back seats, build a box big enough for about four 12-inch subs, and bolt the box down to the floorboard. Since it's bolted to the vehicle, insurance has to cover it.

You explained DSPs and speaker aiming, but as much as I caught from the videos was that it was aimed for it to be focused on the driver. Where would you focus the hearing point when aiming and tuning the speakers?

when your building an enclosure and the manufacturer calls from it to go in let's say, 1.5 sq.ft. is that 1.5 with the space the sub takes up? say the sub takes up .07 sq.ft, does that mean the box itself gets built to 1.57 sq.ft? or just but it to the 1.5? thanks in advance.

Hi Mark, How are you? Beautiful work, man!! I have two questions for you. 1° - what software do you use for syntonize the box? Bassbox, winisd... 2° - I have a JBL GTO1514 subwoofer. The product technical data, for a vented box, is showing 99 liters of internal volume, already considerating the driver and the circular port displacements (30hz). I want to build a box with a retangular port (30hz). My question is about the volume of retangular port. To build a retangular port, the volume of it self is really bigger than the circular port. Using a software to projetc my box (bassbox), it says that the port volume is around 14 liters. So, I have to consider more 14 liters, inside the 99 liters? Thanks a lot, and congratulations for your videos!!

No, as long as your cuts are good and square glue and nails makes a very strong bond. Helps to shoot the nails at a slight angle, again though, cuts must be square. If they are not you should use screws and clamps to suck everything together during assembly.

Always stick to recommend box size. Going too big will cause the response to drop off prematurely and then raise back up at your tuning frequency. If you want to play around with box sizes and tunings download a program called winisd. There is a tutorial for this program somewhere on this channel I think.

Actualy bigger box with lower tuning extends response lower. Size decides if you want deep bass (big box low tuning) or everything flexing (usualy smaller box, higher tuning).

  • @j_ro

the bigger the box, the lower the mechanical power handling. it will be more efficient, and play deep bass with more authority, but not necessarily louder since the sub will bottom out easier. if the box volume is greater than the Vas spec of the sub, it's technically a free air enclosure, and may only handle half the RMS rating.

Jaime Villagomez bigger box = deeper bass, longer port = louder bass, wider port = lower bass.

Would I be able to fit 2 orian 12" hcaa in an extended cab 2010 ford ranger? If so, would I be able to make the box match the theme that im going for my truck, matte black / gold?

    +CarAudioFabrication 15 x 24.5 x 42= 15,435 15,435 ÷ 1728= 8.9 8.9 x .55= 4.9 If I did the math correctly, this about the space I have in my ford ranger for a box. From what ive seen that is plenty of space for 2 orian hcca 12, right?
