    The rope information confused me, but I finally figured it out. Tie the first cord as instructed. Depending on the length of rope you're using, it may be eaier to do it backwards. shortened. Put the first rope through the side screw eye and then through the 2 screw eyes on the front of the board. Bring the rope down the front of the shadecloth from the left screw eye to the bottom and then up the back and tie it to the screw eye on the top. You'll have the rest of the rope hangind down the right side. Figure out how far down the side it needs to hang, based on the reach of the shortest person who will be using the shade. Being short and having 10' ceilings, I needed the part of the cord that will be pulled to be about 5' long. Cut the cord at the desired length for easy pulling. For the second cord, put it through the side screw eye, through the first screw eye on the front of the board, down to the bottom and up the back and tie it to the top screweye. Match the length hanging down on the right side from the first cord. Hint: polyurethane rope can fray at the end. Melt the end with a match or lighter enough to seal it. Either dip it in water or wrap a wet paper towel around the end to cool it. My preference was to tie the 2 pull cords together after sealing the ends. Another hint - I put the front screw eyes about 18" in from each end for a 6' wide shade. For an 8' wide shade, a 3rd screw eye will be added in the middle. I'm still constructing the 8' wide one, so haven't decided if I'm going to run a 3rd rope.

    Did you need a third vertical rope for the 8’ one?

  • @phyllisfactor8687

    @@jsperlman1 yes, I did. The 8' one required a 3rd rope. After hanging it, a very handy friend said it needed pulleys for a smoother operation, and they were added. This spring, I'll attach the pulleys to the board the shade hangs from to make it more stable. Side note: the shade cloth helps, but doesn't provide as much shade as bamboo shades did, but I'm in a very hot climate where more shade is desirable.

    Staple gun works well too on wood and screen connection. If you have or can borrow and electric one goes fast.

    Did you ever make this? I think they missed a step or two. I'm stuck from 1:36 going on. He runs the cord through the screw eye on the side and then it says then cut the cord and tie to the top eye screw.. If you cut, and tie, then next step is pass the cord under the shade? Well where does this second cord start? And the rest of the video doesn't actually show how the cord loops from the side eye screw to the top.. So confused.

    if you want to secure the sides in the event of wind blowing them, any suggestions? I am thinking of eyeletes and shock cord with hooks to suit shock cord.

    okay, so at 1:36-1:37 I and others got confused , likely because of the pace of the video, the cuts, and that the camerawork is close up and we can't see everything that's going on as if we were standing right there. Simply put, once you pass the first rope through that very last side mounted eye bolt on the right to draw the blind, cut it to the height you'll need to pull the shade open or closed, for example say the height of the whole blind. Take that remaining portion of the rope that was cut, then tie that to the second eye bolt at 1:37, and repeat what was done with the first rope, except thread it through the second eyebolt, and that last side mounted eyebolt on the right

    A suggestion - if there are any short people who will be using the shade, make the cords longer. I used a heavier cord than needed and wish I hadn't.

  • @phyllisfactor8687

    @phyllisfactor8687

    Another suggestion - the wooden dowels are very expensive. I ended up making a pocket ( like a hem but bigger) and a friend supplied a piece of pipe. Shade cloth doesn't provide as much shade as I would like. If it bugs me enough, I might add a second layer of shade cloth by sewing it onto the existing.

    You lost me when you said to cut the rope and then started threading it through again. The rope is suddenly on top coming from the opposite direction and it's not clear how you did that. I followed you all the way through when you threaded the rope through the first side eye screw and then you lost me
